Faculty of Social and Politic Sciences

The Faculty of Social and Political Science, established in 1968, is one of UI faculties with the biggest number of students and programs. This is because, since its establishment up to the year 2005, FISIP UI has vastly evolved to own eight departments, 35 programs with 52 specialty programs, with 7912 students.

Institutionally, FISIP UI is part of UI as a BHMN (State Owned Legal Institution). Since 2001, according to the Government Regulation No.152, UI has been established as a BHMN, an institution which management is given autonomy by the government. With that status, the university owns its own rules of association as described in the 2003 Universitas Indonesia Majelis Wali Amanat Decree No. 01/SK/MWA-UI/2003.

Based on the Decree No. 662/SK/R/UI/2002, dated on November 28, 2002, on FISIP UI Dean Discharge and Appointment, UI Rector appointed Dr. Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri as the dean along with Dr. Bambang Shergi Laksmono, MSc as the academic vice dean and Drs. Tafsir Nurchamid, Ak, M.Si as the non-academic vice dean and other member of the head board. The leaders of FISIP UI put a collective effort to transform the faculty into a more institutional organization in line with the “spirit” and dynamics of an autonomous, independent (non-subsidiary), and professional institution in the next four years. The transformation is obviously not an easy task to accomplish because it requires the mindset change of every academic personnel. One of the methods applied in carrying out the transformation systematically is by formulating the faculty’s vision, missions, and Work Plan (Renstra) as well as constructive programs.
Vision and Missions

FISIP UI vision shows the position and direction that can be applied by the faculty in achieving the targeted position in the coming years. FISIP UI’s vision is an interpretative and accommodative format of Universitas Indonesia’s vision. FISIP UI vision formulation contains several key words from UI’s vision such as “research-based educational faculty”, “developing leading research”, as well as “contributing in the nation’s life improvement”. The complete formula of FISIP UI’s vision is:

“To be a research-based educational faculty and to develop leading researches in the field of social and political sciences that contributes in the improvement of the nation’s life managerially, intellectually, and morally as a part of a broader civilization system”

Based on that vision, FISIP UI then establish its missions to:

  • Hold an educational process with quality through the pioneering of research-based education in producing highly-competitive graduates academically and morally.
  • Develop noble research work policy and activities as well as high quality commercial research that are useful for the academic community, students, government, and industry.
  • Develop professional (reliable, ethical, and prosperous) academic (lecturers/researchers) and non-academic (administrational staffs) human resources in order to improve the service quality towards the stakeholders and market.
  • Apply a professional management system which is based on transparency and accountability to create a good, high-performance working system in addition to organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
