Communication Studies

Programme Overview
The Department of Communication Studies aims to produce high-quality graduates who will become professionals with high moral and ethical standards in the science of communication and its practices, both at national and international levels. In the Communication Studies undergraduate programme, students are offered several specializations in various fields of interests namely Journalism, Media Communication, Public Relations, Advertising and Broadcasting and the Creative Industry. While for the Graduate programme, these include fields of interests such as Media Management, Promotion and Marketing Communications, Corporate Communications and Political Communication Management. In addition to regular undergraduate programme, the Department of Communication Studies also provides a non-regular undergraduate programme (or parallel class) and a special international class. Communication Studies graduates generally work in mass media, advertising agencies, private companies (in public relations or publicity), or in government agencies.

Students can enter this programme through the Regular and the Parallel Undergraduate programmes. Admissions for the regular programme is through SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and SIMAK UI. As for the parallel programme, admission is through SIMAK- UI and PPKB.

Tuition Fees
The tuition fee for the Regular Undergraduate Programme is determined in accordance with the ability of the student to pay. This payment scheme, known as the Equitable Academic Operational Fee (Biaya Operasional Pendidikan Berkeadilan /BOP-B), ranges between IDR 100,000 – IDR 5,000,000. Since 2013, Regular Undergraduate students are no longer required to pay a development fee, as it is subsidized by the government through the State University Operational Support (Bantuan Operasional Perguruan Tinggi Negeri / BOPTN). UI uses a Single Tuition Fee (Uang Kuliah Tunggal/UKT) payment system in which students pay for all the educational units determined by the study programme and they no longer pay according to the number of credit units they take every semester.
Meanwhile, the cost for the Parallel Undergraduate Programme is fixed and is also paid using the UKT method. The tuition fee is IDR 9,500,000.00 each semester plus a development fee of IDR 11,000,000.00 which is paid only once.
