"Building the Future through Universitas Indonesia's Areas of Excellence" is the theme of Universitas Indonesia's Strategic Plan (Renstra UI) for 2007-2012. This Strategic Plan is created based on Universitas Indonesia's accelerated transformation from good to great governance in year 2012.

In five years, Universitas Indonesia targets itself to be part of "World Class Research Universities". Universitas Indonesia, as flag carrier of the nation, is expected to be the hub of developing academic tradition at the national and international level. Moreover, Universitas Indonesia projects itself to be leader in knowledge advancement through the implementation Tri Dharma (teaching, research, and community services).  Most importantly, Universitas Indonesia acts as an effective driving force for national building.

To achieve that, internationalization plays important role. In this regard, International Office focuses on four strategies: International Engagement, International Learning and Teaching, International Research and Research Training, and International Knowledge Transfer.
