Inauguration of Two Professors from The Faculty of Engineering

UI President Prof.Dr.der Soz Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri inaugurated two Professors from the Faculty of Engineering UI Dr-Ing. Ir. Nandy Putra (39) and Dr. Ir. Setijo Bismo, DEA (49) in an open session of the Academic Senate UI that was held on Wednesday morning (13/01) in The Convention Center, Kampus Depok. The session was attended by the President of MWA UI dr. Purnomo Prawiro and the former president of Indonesian Legislative Assembly Dr. Ir. Akbar Tanjung, and the deputy governor of DKI Jakarta Prof.Dr.Ir. Sutanto Soehodho, M.Eng.

Prof. Nandy Putra delivered a scientific oration entitled "Application of Thermoelectric Research on Achieving the Purpose of Millennium Development in Indonesia ". In the meanwhile, Prof. Setijo Bismo delivered a scientific oration entitled "Engineer and Application of Plasma and Ozone Technology in Process Intensification: Heading to Industry Process with High Performance on Natural Conception." From the titles and the topics explained by the two professors, we can see that there are some researches that have been done. So, it’s not only a matter of publishing an article in international journal, but it also can be applied for the nation’s need and wealth. Prof. Nandy, a lecturer in Department of Mechanical Engineering, felt challenged to create a device that can keep a vaccine in particular degree in a relatively long time. This device can be used in in an isolated public health center with only one battery. While Prof. Bismo, lecturer of the Chemical Engineering Department, has done some researches on simple ozone technology to manage water. The result could be used, operated, and even owned by public collectively without spending a lot of money. As we know, the need for clean water is important for public health.

According to the Dean of The Faculty of Engineering, Prof.Dr.Ir. Bambang Sugiarto M.Eng, with this inauguration, Faculty of Engineering now has 38 professors, making it the second faculty with the biggest number of professors. The professors are still young and very productive. It is expected that there will be many products published and donated for the wealth of the nation. (din)
