The history of the establishment of FMIPA UI is inseparable from the great history of the early establishment of the University of Indonesia. FMIPA UI, at the beginning of the establishment of the Universitas Indonesia, was known as the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Natural Sciences (FIPIA), based in Bandung. When UI development was centralized in the national capital, the faculty was then released to become one of the faculties managed by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), which opened in 1959. In its development, it changed the Faculty of Exact Science and Natural Sciences (FIPIA) to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) in 1982. This name changed based on Government Regulation No. 27 of 1981, dated August 14, 1981 (RI State Institution No. 41), regarding the arrangement of faculties at state universities and institutes. This regulation was later strengthened by Presidential Decree No. 44 of 1982, dated September 7, 1982, regarding the organizational structure of the University of Indonesia. Along with the construction of the new University of Indonesia campus in Depok, West Java, in July 1987, lectures and administrative activities at FMIPA UI officially moved from the UI Salemba campus, Central Jakarta, to the Depok campus, West Java.

Mathematics

Program Description

The UI Mathematics Department has the vision to make mathematics an important tool that supports other disciplines in technological developments. The Mathematics Department’s undergraduate program equips students with courses covering the fields of Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Operational Research, and Actuarial. Most alumni of the Mathematics Department work in the insurance and information technology fields. Other fields that accommodate graduates of the Mathematics department are manufacturing, education, research, banking, advertising, publishing, and others.

This study program is open for regular undergraduate and parallel undergraduate classes, where the entry pathways for regular undergraduate courses are through SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and SIMAK-UI. As for parallel classes through SIMAK-UI and PPKB.

Cost of education

Based on UI Chancellor Decree No.406/SK?R/UI/2021

Regular S1 tuition amount based on the ability of the fund bearer in BOP-B (Equitable Education Operational Costs), which is in the range of IDR 100,000 – IDR 7,500,000

As of 2013, regular bachelor’s degrees are not subjected to entry fees due to government subsidiary entry fees through State University Operational Assistance (BOPTN).

UI uses Single Tuition Fees or UKT as a payment system where students pay a unit tuition fee determined by the study program and no charge per credit.

Based on the 2022 UI Education Fee Decree

For regular, the cost of education for Parallel undergraduates is fixed. The amount of the BOP is IDR 12,000,000 per semester and IDR 25,000,000 for entry fees.

For foreigners, the tuition fee for the Parallel Undergraduate Program is fixed, while The BOP is Rp. Twenty-one million per semester, and the entry fees are Rp 20,000,000.

Physics

Program Description

The graduates of the Department of Physics can work in various fields, such as geophysics, access engineering, data analysis, dan radiotherapy. Institutions that require physics graduates include Pertamina, Batan, Pindad, LIPI, Indosat, BMKG, and mining companies.

Students will also choose a specialization within the Department of Physics: Nuclear and Particle Physics, Materials Physics, Condensed Materials Physics, Electronic Instrumentation Physics, Geophysics, Medical Physics, and Biophysics.

This program study is opened at the regular and parallel undergraduate level through SNMPTN (National State University Invitation Admission), SBMPTN (National State University Admission Examination), and SIMAK-UI (UI’s Independent Admission Examination) for a regular class. As for parallel types through SIMAK-UI and PPKB.

For the regular undergraduate program, the fee is paid according to the financial ability of the bearer, BOP-B (Education Operational Cost.

Chemical

Program Description

Department of Chemistry Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science UI holds Chemistry Study Program to produce human resources that have competencies, skills, and responsibilities as professionals, scientists, and scholars in chemistry science. In realizing the objectives, the Department of Chemistry has prepared a set of curriculum systems, reliable teachers, sophisticated instruments, and other supporting facilities, such as laboratory and learning support facilities.

Biology

Program Description

The Bachelor Programme of Biology is equipped with seven laboratories, or academic groups, namely: Taxonomy Laboratory: Botanical, Animal, Molecular, Physiology Laboratory: Botanical, Animal, Tissue Culture, Ecology Laboratory; Genetics Laboratory; Microbiology Laboratory, Development and Reproduction Laboratory, and Marine Biology Laboratory. In addition, students may choose from electives offered by the Laboratories above. They may afterward select a topic for research (final project). Students are expected to complete 144 credits throughout the program, consisting of 117 obligatory credits, 21 elective credits, and six research credits.

Geography

Program Description

The Bachelor Programme of Geography, Faculty of Mathematics and the Natural Science UI, aims to provide students understanding of regional perspectives in areal studies, particularly the mastery of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Offered concentrations are Physical Geography, Areal Studies, and GIS & Remote Sensing.

Course Description

The policy studies show that mathematics experts with a bachelor plus degree or master’s degree are highly needed in the sector of manufacturing industry and service industry. With this condition, the Department of Mathematics considers it necessary to improve its service to the community by opening the Mathematics Master’s Program. The objectives of this study program are to produce graduates who have high competence in mathematics, can be a researcher in Mathematics, and can derive mathematical models from problems of science, technology, and other fields and solve them.

Master of Physic

Course Description

The Department of Physics is committed to providing high-quality education and facilities for research in physics and its applications in four specializations:

  • Pure and Applied Physicsproduces researchers capable of planning and performing research and educators qualified to lecture on graduate-level physics.
  • Medical Physicsproduces medical physicists projected to fulfill the needs of hospitals. Especially in the fields of radiotherapeutic service, radiodiagnostics, and nuclear medicine.
  • Instrumentation physicsproduces experts in instrumentation capable of controlling the quality and quantity of instrumentation and managing or establishing instrumentation diversification businesses..
  • Reservoir geophysics produces experts possessing strong quantitative analytical capabilities. Coupled with profound knowledge of geology and reservoir technology, they can plan and perform research and methodological development in reservoir geophysics.

Founded in 1993 as a center of academic education and research, the Postgraduate Programme of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics, and the Natural Sciences Universitas Indonesia supports the research, utilization, and conservation of biological natural resources.

Master of Geography

Course Description

The Geography Master Programs aims to generate holders of postgraduate degrees capable of performing, applying, and developing spatial analysis to study various aspects from an areal perspective. Through a fusion of geographic and scientific methods and the application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology shall acquire such capabilities. This program offers two specializations, namely :

  • Areal Planning
  • GIS and Remote Sensing Application

The Geography Master Programme is intended for fresh undergraduates, observers, researchers, practicians, consultants, and other members of society who are interested in the field.

To develop strength and competitiveness in marine science, the FMIPA-UI Master of Marine Science Study Program comprehensively increases students’ scientific knowledge and abilities. As a result, graduates from this Study Program have the competence:
