More than 1000 participants attended online to participate in the socialization of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) Batch 2 program, which was held online through the zoom meeting and youtube Directorate of Student Affairs, Universitas Indonesia (UI). The MBKM: IISMA program, which was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, in 2021 has sent nearly 1,000 students abroad to study.

The Head of the Center for Independent Learning UI, F. Astha Ekadiyanto, M.Sc, explained that there are several important points from industrial revolution 4.0 education namely global citizen skills, innovation and creativity skills, technology skills, interpersonal skills, personalized and self-paced learning, accessible and inclusive learning, problem-based and collaborative learning, and lifelong and student-driven learning.

“The reason for joining IISMA is of course the incentives so far, namely: recognition Semester Credit Unit, and it has been declared 20 credits, study the courses that interest you, study at top universities, experience new culture, develop international networking i.e. you interact not only with the lecturers and the university but also with students who are your friends, and develop competencies *for* the future,” ujarnya.

Junaidi, Deputy Head of the MBKM Program at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said that the Ministry organizes four off-campus learning activities that are in demand by more than 300,000 students from more than 2,000 universities in Indonesia. First, internships and independent studies are in demand by more than 12,000 students. Second, the IISMA, which is in demand by more than 900 students. Third, the independent student exchange program, which attracted more than 8,000 students. Finally, the teaching campus, which attracted more than 20,000 students.

IISMA is part of the independent campus activities, in the form of scholarships from the Indonesian government to fund Indonesian students at the best universities abroad. The requirements for joining the IISMA program include being active undergraduate students, good English proficiency, nominated by the home university, and a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0.

Several stages that must be passed to register for the IISMA program are looking for universities and courses through the IISMA platform, getting a letter of recommendation from the vice chancellor, filling out forms through the IISMA platform, checking if you get an interview process session, attending an interview session as scheduled, checking if you pass the selection interview, and get nominated for the award.

UI Director of Student Affairs, Badrul Munir, Ph.D., said that student application registration to the IISMA DIKTI platform is from 1-31 March 2022, while internal registration at UI is from 1-28 February 2022. UI support for IISMA MBKM *in the form* of socialization and information, English preparation assistance, support for the submission process, preparation for departure, monitoring of study and return, and transfer of credits.

IISMA Awardee 2022 candidates must read the MBKM IISMA 2022 program registration guidelines and register via https://cil.ui.ac.id, upload all required documents, selection and verification, and students who pass will receive a letter of recommendation from the vice chancellor UI academic and student affairs.

As an IDP Consulting Indonesia representative, Doddy gave a presentation about IELTS which is an institution or as one of the tools to measure English language skills organized by three institutions, namely Cambridge University, British Council, and IDP Education Australia. Computer-based IELTS results are published about 3-5 days after the exam, while paper results are published in 13 days. In addition, the IELTS components consist of listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Furthermore, Testing Manager of The Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF) Wiati explained, “Mastering English can provide many benefits ranging from economic improvement and for study needs. TOEFL family is a product that shows our efforts to learn TOEFL from early childhood and adulthood. Where English language skills cannot be obtained in an instant and everything must be started gradually. The TOEFL is divided into four types, namely primary, junior, ITP, and IBT. In addition, the TOEFL components are listening, reading, writing, and speaking.”
