A team from Universitas Indonesia (UI) has lauched Isolasinfo, an Android app designed to help patients suffering from mild Covid-19 cases undergo self-isolation while maintaining their physical health. The developers of the app consists of students from the Faculty of Medicine (FK) and the Faculty of Computer Sciences (Fasilkom).
The application, developers reveal, was developed with the lack of knowledge and awareness of self-isolation among members of the public amidst Covid-19 in mind.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Ari Fahrial Syam, stated that the application is a breakthrough achieved by a cross-disciplinary collaboration of Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Computer Sciences students supported by the university. “In the digital age things like this are in demand in society,” Ari stated, as quoted from a press conference transcribed on Wednesday (3/11/2021). dr. Ari, himself a specialist of internal diseases, expressed his hopes that the app would inspire other apps of a similar build dealing with other diseases such as diabetes melitus, high blood pressure, and many more.
Maintaining Physical and Mental Health
Prasandhya Astagiri Yusuf, the Head of Isolasinfo’s [Community] Service Team, revealed the aims of the app’s launch: as a platform to maintain physical and mental health during the pandemic and provide information and instruction on performing proper self-isolation while maintaing the physical and mental health of its users. Users of the app will be able to access various telemedicine services, seek professional help, and contact various hotlines.
Educational content embedded in the app has been supervised by doctors from the Faculty of Medicine and Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusomo (RSCM), a hospital. Its creation has also involved the Indonesian Doctors’ Association (IDI). The involvement of these parties removes any doubt as to the validity of content within the app.
These app offers its users several features. One of them is the Assessment feature, which allows its users to determine conditions that they may be facing. from symptoms experienced, on a daily basis.
Nutrition notifies the app’s users of the types and anounts of nutrition they require. Users may choose to activity a notification reminding them to consume medication or vitamin.
Education provides flashcards and infographics on self-isolation. Sports contain information on sports, and an assessment to determine whether or not users are fit to perform exercises.
Well-being contains contents and journals on maintaining mental health, and a forum where users can share their stories and provide comfort and encouragement unto each other.
This app is a response to the pandemic, a fitting, concrete response produced by students, remarked the Vice Chancellor on Education, Research, and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Computer Sciences , Ari Saptawijaya. He hopes that the app can serve to “encourage all of us to support and look after each other, and work together in facing and overcoming the pandemic.”
The Director of RSUPN dr. Cipto Mangunkusomo, Lies Dina Liastuti, stated that the app should be “continuous” in nature, meaning that the benefits it has to offer “must not stop after the pandemic has ended.” The app should “serve as a medium of education for children in times to come.”
