Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia Students Win In All Categories of Global Pharmacy Competition.

Students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Indonesia (FFUI) made international achievements at the IPSF APRO Regional Competition 2022. The series of pharmaceutical competitions was held by the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation Asia Pacific Regional Office (IPSF APRO) in January 2022. A total of 12 students from 2017 to 2020 Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia won ranking in all branches of the competition.

IPSF APRO Regional Competition 2022 is open to pharmacy students across Asia Pacific. More than 21 countries participated in this competition. There are five branches of competition in this event. They are Industrial Skills Event (ISE), Patient Counseling Event (PCE), Debate Competition, Compounding Event, and Clinical Skills Event.

 

In the Clinical Skills Event competition, participants’ abilities were tested in pharmacology. Participants are required to complete multiple choice questions. Participants who qualify for the final round are formed into several teams and asked to solve a case. They should evaluate the therapy the patient is receiving, then suggest other better therapies. Three teams from Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia won this competition. Hosea Imanuel (2020) and Sonny (2020) won the 1st Winner, Felicia Natalia (2017) and Muhammad Fahrul Rizal (2018) won the 1st Runner Up, and Adriel Sebastian (2019) took the 2nd Runner Up position.

PCE, which is another competition category, requires participants to complete written counseling questions in the form of multiple choice and essays in the preliminary round, as well as provide direct counseling via Zoom Meeting to patient actors. In this competition, participants are divided into two categories, namely Beginnerand Advanced. Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas IndonesiaI student on behalf of Patricia Heidi Sujadidjaja (2020) was ranked2ndRunner Up for the Beginnercategory and Adriel Sebastian (2019) was ranked 1st Runner Up for the Advancedcategory.

Meanwhile, in the ISE competition, the participants were tested for their abilities in the pharmaceutical industry. ISE requires participants to make proposals for new drug innovations that will be deliveredusing microneedles. This proposal covers the suitable drug to be used, the marketing method of the drug, the clinical trials to be carried out, the pharmacovigilance of the drug, and the physicochemical properties of the drug selected. In the final round, the teams that passed presented the proposed products and the judges chose the team with the best products. The Faculty of pharmacy UI student team consisting of Aprilia Hiumawan, Eza Muthia Silparensi, Felicia Natalia Kurniadi, and Meilinda Shania managed to rank 1stRunner Up in this category.

The Faculty of pharmacy UI students also won rankings in two other competition categories, namely Debate Competition and Compounding Event. The Debate Competition requires the participating teams to debate the topic of pharmacy from the pros and cons. Cindy Manuela (2018), Alvian Nathanael (2019), and Kimberly Roselind (2020) managed to rank 1st Runner Up. Kimberly Roselind was also ranked Best Debater.

Unlike other competition categories, the Compounding Event, which is an individual competition category, tests the participants’ abilities in pharmaceutical science and compounding skills. Aprilia Hiumawan (2017) won 2nd Runner Up in this competition.

Patricia Heidi Sujadidjaja, one of the students who was ranked in the PCE competition, hopes that in the future there will be more achievements for Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia students. “Being able to represent Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia at the international level is a pride and honor that I will never forget. I would like to thank BEM, the lecturers, as well as all high-ranking officials of Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia who have become facilitators for us. I hope that in the future Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia students can achieve more achievements at the international level and make Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Indonesia and Indonesia proud,” said Patricia.
