mahawaditraAfter performing at Australian International Music Festival, OSUI (Orkes Simfoni Universitas Indonesia) Mahawaditra got an achievement. On friday, July 3rd 2015 Mahawaditra brought bronze from the festival.

From june 27th to July 3rd 2015, Mahawaditra played eight songs at four different location, which were Sydney Opera House, Verbughen Hall Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Sydney Town Hall, and Australian Maritime Museum. Performing as 52 players, Mahawaditra played Indonesian folk song, Indonesian latest song, movie soundtrack, and western song.

Songs that were played among of them were “From The Break of Morning” from Marisa Sharon, “Es Liling-Warung Pojok” arranged by Cheppy Soemirat, “Engklek” from Fero Aldianya, “In A Persian Market” from Albert Katelbey, “Pirates of The Caribean” from Clause Badlet, “Varia Ibukota” arranged by Moctar Embut, and “The Phantom of The Opera” from Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The student orchestra that has already turn 32 years old, also added gendang Sunda and angklung (Sundanese traditional music instrument) on several songs that were played. This thing attracted the jury’s attention that were consist of Stephen William from Symphony Australia, Ralph Hultgren from Quensland Conservatorium Griffith University, and Beng Wee Tan from Band Directors Association of Singapore.

In the festival, Mahawaditra also noted as the first Indonesian orchestra that had performed at Sydney historical building, Sydney Town Hall. Beside that, Mahawaditra also wrote a history as the second Indonesian orchestra after Twilite Orchestra that had performed at Sydney Opera House.
