Depok (05/14/2019). researcher Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UI, Dr. Anom Bowolaksono, M.Sc. recently won an achievement by being chosen as one of the six best researchers who successfully received research funding through the Newton fund research program between the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education.

This was revealed by the Indonesian Menristekdikti and the British Ambassador at a joint conference on infectious disease research between the government of Indonesia and the United Kingdom on Monday (05/13/2019) in Building D, Kemenristekdikti RI, Jakarta.

In the inter-state collaboration, the Indonesian Ministry of Research and Technology and the UK Department of Business, Energy and Strategy set aside Rp. 37 billion to fund six best studies in the field of infectious diseases for a period of three years.

To the faculty public relations team through Whatsapp messages, Anom explained, He would collaborate with British researcher Peter Barlow from Edinburgh Napier University to complete a research project entitled “Cathelicidins As Novel Therapeutic Antivirals For Dengue Infection”.

In his research, He and Peter will test the molecule of cathelicidins produced by the human immune system, whether this molecule can be modified to fight dengue fever.

Furthermore, the molecular biologist FMIPA UI explained, his research will be conducted for 3 years, beginning with the isolation process of several related proteins and performing expression and validation tests, the second year will be carried out autophagydane induction and regulation and testing of related protein activity, and in the last year cathelicidins treatment for exogenous dengue virus infection.
