International accreditation is an important step in the improvement of the quality of education, as well as being one in which global recognition of the university may be achieved. As a business school which seeks to keep on increasing its performance and impact continuously, the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI) sent its delegates to the Business Accreditation Seminar (BAS), held by the Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB) in the Singapore Management University (SMU) on 6-7 June 2022.

The Dean of the Faculty, Teguh Dartanto, PhD., was given the honour to be one of the speakers invited to the conference. Although accreditation is still in progress, Teguh was asked to share some of his experience on FEB UI’s transformation, which made use of benchmarking in the accreditation standards set by AACSB.

“Organisational transformation is a crucial process by which FEB UI leaps on from being the best business school in Indonesia to becoming one of international repute. AACSB’s accreditation process enbles FEB UI to carry out comprehensive benchmarks on 15 AACSB standards and the AACSB international network [in order] to achieve the visions and missions of FEB UI,” stated Teguh, explaining the importance of benchmarking on FEB UI’s transformation to be a leading business school

Benchmarking was carried out in every AACSB accreditation process. FEB UI has become a member of AACSB since 2007, yet it has attained eligibility only in 2015. In the subsequent seven years, FEB UI has been continuously carrying out improvements.

“From [the time] I was the head of a programme, the head of a department, the vice-dean, the dean’s aide, to [my current standing as] a dean. I expect to attend in next year’s annual conference not as a speaker, but as a newly accredited school,” stated Teguh.

One of the chief topics discussed in BAS is the 2022 AACSB Standard. Several essential changes have taken place — an implication of the transformation from AACSB 2013 Standard to AACSB 2020 Standard. Although FEB UI still employed the 2013 Standard in the Initial Accreditation, the Continuous Improvement Review (CIB) to take place in the next five years will use the 2020 Standard. Several adjustments have also been embedded into the International Accreditation to ease the transition to the 2020 Standard.

AACSB has also held an annual accreditation conference for the Asia-Pacific region, dubbed the Annual Accreditation Conference: Asia Pacific (AACAP). The conference, which took place on 8-19 June 2022, was the first Asia-Pacific conference to be held offline after Covid-19. Attended by 15 countries, it is the largest post-pandemic conference to have ever taken place.

AACSB, a global nonprofit association, connects educators, students, and business to achieve a common goal: to create the next generation of great leaders. Synonymous with the highest standards of excellence since 1916, AACSB provides quality assurance, business education intelligence, and learning and development services to over 1,850 member organizations and more than 950 accredited business schools worldwide. AACSB’s accreditation processes are ISO 9001:2015 certified.
