UI International Publication Number One in the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) of the Ministry of Education and Culture

Depok, 18 January 2024. The University of Indonesia occupies the top position in Indonesia in the international publications on SINTA (Science and Technology Index) organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. On the official website, it is recorded that on January 16, 2024, there were 32,220 UI documents in Scopus with a total of 263,152 citations (cited). In 2023, UI produced more than 2,000 Scopus-indexed articles dominated by Quartile 1.

Data released by SciVal on December 29, 2023, UI had a significant increase in Q1 journal publication, from 29.3% in 2022 to 34.9% in 2023. This increase also shows UI’s solemnity in improving the university and Indonesia’s reputation.

Deputy Chancellor for Research and Innovation, drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., Sp, OF(K), said that UI’s achievements in research publications play an important role in raising UI’s position on the international scale. “UI continues to encourage its academic civitas to conduct impactful research, not only for Indonesian society but also for the world community. Therefore, we demand UI research to answer international problems and challenges,” said drg. Nurtami.

According to drg. Nurtami, UI research has now shifted from quantity to quality. UI used to encourage researchers to publish their research in any journal so the number of articles increased and the culture of writing among researchers grew. However, since the 2020s, UI’s focus has changed because times and challenges have changed. UI publications no longer pursue quantity, but quality, so the research conducted can be published in the world’s best journals.

SINTA also released information related to UI publications on Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Garuda. On Google Scholar, there are 162,848 documents recorded with 1,275,815 citations. Meanwhile, on Web of Science, there are 606 documents with 1,736 citations. on Garuda, there are 15,127 documents with 569 citations. In 2023, UI published 6,657 articles on Google Scholar, 767 articles on Garuda, and 380 articles on Web of Science.

UI research covers five subject areas, which are Natural Sciences, Life Sciences and Medicine, Engineering & Technology, Social Sciences & Management, and Arts & Humanities. Currently, SINTA said 2,875 UI researchers are actively writing, achieving an overall SINTA score of 2,437,783. SINTA, a web-based research information system, also measures the performance of researchers, institutions, and journals in Indonesia. The purpose is to develop collaborative partnerships and analyze research trends and expert directories.
