The Times Higher Education Rating Agency (THE) released a ranking list of 417 universities in 27 countries in the Asian region on Wednesday (1/5) via the website https://www.timeshighereducation.com. University of Indonesia (UI) managed to rank 133 of the best universities in Asia. UI is the first tertiary institution in Indonesia to successfully penetrate THE ranking list and at this time, UI rankings have increased and successfully counted in the best ranks of universities in Asia.

UI Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met said, “The results of this ranking are evidence of the continued achievement of UI in the international ranking arena. Recognition at the international level proves that teaching standards at UI are able to be aligned with other universities in Asia and the world. This achievement has become a trigger for UI’s spirit to continue working on the Tri Dharma of Higher Education: Teaching, Research and Community Service. It is hoped that UI will continue to contribute to printing superior human resources that are globally competitive. ”

Furthermore, Prof. Anis said, four pillars supporting the success of UI were the spirit of research, innovation and community service by UI academicians. Secondly, qualified educators and third, international networks that UI has. UI is also increasing the quantity and quality of international scientific journal publications and internationalization efforts through increasing the number of foreign educators and students and building global cooperation with the best universities in America, Australia, Europe and Asia.

THE said UI rankings rose due to teaching scores, research and industry outcomes. UI managed to occupy a position above the ranking of Universiti Sains Malaysia (ranked 150); Kindai University and Waseda University, Japan (166). THE also noted that the growth of University achievements in Asia was dominated by the productivity of research and industrial cooperation. THE 2019 Asian University Rankings are based on five broad parameters such as those used for THE ranking in World Universities, namely 25 percent of teaching; research and citation research, each weighing 30 percent; followed by international outreach and industrial cooperation, each carrying a weight of 7.5 percent.
