STUDENT ADMISSION TRACKS OF UNIVERSITAS INDONESIA 2023: EXPANDING EDUCATION FOR INDONESIANS

Universitas Indonesia (UI) held an outreach on student admissions for graduates from high school and the equivalent in 2023. The activity which was held offline on Friday (03/02) at Balai Purnomo Prawiro, UI Depok Campus, was delivered by Chief Executive of the National Selection of Student Admissions (SNPMB) Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, DESS., DEA., IPU., ASEAN., Eng.; Head of Student Admissions Office UI (PMB) Dr. Gunawan, S.T., M.T.; and Director of Center for Independent Learning (CIL) UI F. Astha Ekadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc., moderated by the Head of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure Bureau (KIP) Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Sc., CPR.

Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs UI Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc. said that UI provides the widest possible access to education for the public to be able to study at UI. “UI is trying to expand access to opportunities for Indonesian people to study at UI with its patterns and strategies, including by increasing capacity or quotas. One of the policies we has launched is the Pre-University program. This program is an implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy which began in 2022. This program provides an opportunity for high school students to take courses at UI without having to be UI students,” said Prof. Harris. He hopes that students can take advantage of this opportunity. If students get a graduation certificate with a good score from the course, the certificate obtained can be recognized if the student registers to study at UI.

In the event, it was stated that the admission tracks for UI student admissions for the Undergraduate and Vocational levels are divided into two, which are the national track and the independent track. In 2023, UI will open student admissions which are divided into several programs, which are Undergraduate, International Undergraduate Class, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Undergraduate Class, Vocational, and RPL Class for Vocational Program.

Meanwhile, dr. Gunawan said that for the national track, UI provides 50% of the total capacity with details: 20% through the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) and 30% through the National Selection Based on Examination (SNBT). He said that this year UI merged the parallel and regular undergraduate programs into one. “There will be no more registrations for regular or parallel programs. The overall total capacity is a combination of the capacity of Undergraduates, International Undergraduate Class, Recognition of Prior Learning Class (RPL) Undergraduate Class, Vocational, and RPL Class for Vocational Program. The overall capacity will be divided according to the admission patterns into the national track and the independent track,” he said.

This year, UI included 64 undergraduate study programs and 15 vocational study programs in the national admission of SNBP and SNBT. SNBP is a national selection track to enter state universities for high school students and the equivalent based on achievement and grades. Currently, the phase of creating SNPMB account for schools and students has been starting on January 9, 2023, on the https://portal-snpmb.bppp.kemdikbud.go.id/ page, which will end on February 9, 2023 for schools, and February 15, 2023 for students. SNBT is a state university entrance selection using a computer-based test that covers mathematical reasoning, literacy in Indonesian, literacy in English, and cognitive potential. Further information about this admission rack can be seen at the link snpmb.bppp.kemdikbud.go.id.

The remaining 50% of the capacity will be offered for the independent selection track. For independent selection track, UI will organize two types of admissions, which are admission based on achievement or invitation and admission based on tests. For independent admission that is based on achievements or invitations, it is referred to as Program Prestasi Pemerataan Kesempatan Belajar (PPKB) and Talent Scouting. PPKB will be open for all undergraduate study programs and vocational study programs, whereas Talent Scouting will be open for all International Undergraduate Class study programs.

For admission based on an independent test, it is known as SIMAK UI. SIMAK will later be divided into three parts, which are SIMAK for International Undergraduate Class, SIMAK for Undergraduate and Vocational Program, and SIMAK for RPL Undergraduate Class and RPL Class for Vocational Program.
