A number of students from the Universitas Indonesia (UI) who are members of the Autonomous Marine Vehicle Team UI (AMV UI) once again raise the nation’s name at the International Ship Robot Competition entitled “12th Roboboat International AUVSI” held in Florida, USA on 17-23 June 2019. Team AMV UI won the Third World Champion by competing with students’ innovative work related to Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) in the form of ship robots or also known as unmanned ships capable of automatic movement without human intervention for marine territorial patrols which are difficult for the government to monitor.
In this competition participants must be able to do several missions, namely Navigation Test, Speed ​​Challange, Find the path, Raise the Flag, and Automated docking. The AMV UI team succeeded in carrying out a mission that was determined quite well, apparently, was able to make a ship that has speed, radius maneuvering, material that is capable of supporting the ship in carrying out a series of missions listed above. In addition to ships, the AMV UI Team also made a drone that was launched from the ship for those who had to move autonomously to record an image of an aerial look that had to be transmitted into the ship’s operating system so it was very challenging to run.
The AMV UI team managed to excel among teams from various other countries, including, America, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Egypt. Before leaving for USA, the AMV UI Team also succeeded in becoming the first winner of the ASEAN level through the Makara 08 Mark II Robot innovation in the competition “The 3rd ASEAN MATE Underwater Robot Competition. The AMV UI team consists of 25 UI students across disciplines, ranging from Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Computer Science, to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
This achievement shows that the ability and competence of UI students can be taken into account at the world level and are ready to compete at the global level. It is hoped that this achievement can continue to improve the ability of UI academics to compete internationally as a form of embodiment of a superior and advanced country.
