Universitas Indonesia > News > News Highlights > UI Tennis Tournament 2023: Plans to Build International Standard Tennis Courts

After being successfully held in previous years, Universitas Indonesia (UI) through the Directorate of Career Development and Alumni Relations (DPKHA) once again held the UI Tennis Tournament 2023. There were two categories being contested, namely the invited groups, which was held on 28th–29th of October 2023, and individual doubles were held on 4th–5th of November 2023. In the invited group, the matches that were played consisted of three age categories (KU), namely KU Open, KU 90 (45+), and KU 110 (55+). Meanwhile, individual doubles consisted of four age categories (KU), namely KU Open, KU 80 (40+), KU 120 (60+), and Executive KU.

Different from previous years, this time there was an additional invited group category. The team invitational category was aimed at tennis teams who were directly invited to participate in the tennis tournament. The invited tennis teams/squads come from several companies/agencies that are active in tennis sports activities.

“This is also in line with the UI DPKHA’s efforts to further activate tennis on the UI campus, and to promote plans to build a UI tennis court complex consisting of six outdoor tennis courts and one indoor tennis court. This development requires support from external parties, especially companies/agencies that have the same enthusiasm for activating the sport of tennis in Indonesia,” said DPKHA UI Director Ir. Ahmad Syafiq, M.Sc., Ph.D.

He further said that as the best university in Indonesia, UI should have standardized sports facilities, including tennis. UI has a strategic location capital for holding international tennis events, thus UI as a world class university also has international standard sports facilities.

“Thank God, the UI Tennis Tournament is always eagerly awaited by tennis enthusiats, whose numbers continue to grow. The hope is that all parties can contribute to making this happen. Building UI means building the country,” said Ir. Syafiq.

There were several participants who joined this year’s tournament, including the President Director of PT. Bumi Kencana Eka Sejahtera – Sinarmas Group Dr. Hartana; President Director of PT ANTAM Tbk Nicolas D. Kanter; Vice Head of District Prosecutor Office of West Papua Dr. Teuku Rahman; Head of the District Prosecutor Office of Karawang Syaifullah ; Director of Research, Gatot Subroto RSPAD, Major General TNI DR.dr. S, STPI, M.M.,; and Postgraduate Director of the Fisheries Business Expert Polytechnic, Prof. Sinung Rahardjo.

“The 2023 UI Tennis Tournament is an important tennis event for UI in order for the tennis branch to continue to progress considering the extraordinary potential that UI students, lecturers, staff, and alumni have. This tournament is also an event to invite potential sponsors in UI’s plans to build 6 international standard outdoor courts which will be used for various activities ranging from tennis coaching to holding national and international scale tournaments under the auspices of PB. PELTI,” said Dr. Rokhmatuloh, S.Si, M.Eng., as Chief Executive of the 2023 UI Tennis Tournament
