NEW UI INTERNATIONAL REVIEW, TENNIS COURT INITIATIVE

Universitas Indonesia > Alumni > NEW UI INTERNATIONAL REVIEW, TENNIS COURT INITIATIVE

An atmosphere of intimacy with jokes and laughter emanated at the KODAM JAYA tennis court that morning. Destry Damayanti (FE’83), Chairperson of ILUNI FEB who is also a PELTI Advisor and former national tennis athlete, also encouraged the participants. “I’m very happy to meet my fellow UI tennis players. And we will support future plans,” said the Senior Deputy Governor of BI, who missed the UI tennis championship this time. Chairman of the Tournament committee, Dr. Agus Supriadi, SpOG (FK UI ’96) in his speech told a little about the beginning of the initiative of this Championship “Hopefully this tournament will be the beginning of our collaboration with PELTI. UI is preparing a large area of land and PELTI is trying to make a minimum of six outdoor courts with international standard. In Jakarta, it is already difficult to find a location with six international standard courts. Hopefully this will also be UI’s dedication to the development of tennis in Indonesia! Overseas there are now many international standards. UI wants to collaborate with PELTI to be able to build facilities. We have land on the Depok campus, we also have assets, soccer and tennis courts in Rawamangun. “That is how then we can improve sports achievements,” said the UI Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets, Prof.Ir. Dedi Priadi (FEng’80) in his speech representing the Rector of UI. Director of Graduate Career Development and Alumni Relations (DPKHA) Ir. Ahmad Syafiq, MSc, PhD as the person in charge of the tournament, was very happy that the first UI tennis tournament received a very good response from UI leaders and UI alumni tennis players. “They all also supported the initiative to cooperate in the construction of international tennis courts.” Hopefully, this activity can run every year so that tennis lovers can gather. In addition, it also continues with other programs and tournaments, in participating in developing the sport of tennis in Indonesia. After successfully organizing golf, the DPKHA thought of organizing a tennis facility. Because tennis is a popular sport in the community, including at UI. There were quite a lot of enthusiasts and UI also has a tennis court, said Prof. Fikawati (FD’82), vice chairman of the committee who was also a participant.

To execute the idea, we brought together people in the tennis field with PELTI and the Director of Operations and Maintenance of UI Facilities, Prof. Ganjar. The initial plan for this tournament was in August, but because it was still PPKM, it was postponed and was held on October 30-31. The tournament organized by DPKHA UI, in collaboration with ILUNI UI, Alumni Tennis Association UI and Tennis Club UI is limited to 94 participants divided into Executive Age Group (AG), Free AG, 100 + AG and 80+ AG. The goal is to strengthen the relationship between UI alumni tennis players and the initiative to have an international standard tennis court at the Depok UI campus, said Beny S Jafar, S.E (FEB 92 Head of the Sub-Directorate for Alumni Relations and Potential Alumni Participation as the event coordinator.
