On Saturday, January 27 th 2018, Diansyah Putri F. Handayani, an alumni of Faculty of
Engineering of Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) year of 2000 started her journey to climb the
seven highest mountains in the world by the program “Jelajah Putri”.
It is a program under the auspices of Ikatan Alumni Universitas Indonesia (ILUNI UI) with
mission “7 summits, 2 polars, 7 pillar of educations”. In this program, Putri will explore the
7 highest summits of 7 continent, that are Kilimanjaro (Highest in Africa), Carstensz
Pyramid (Highest in Australia and Oceania), Elbrus (Highest in Europe), Aconcagua
(Highest in South America), Denali (Highest in North America), Vinson Massif (Highest in
Antarctica), and Everest.
This time's departure was to climb Aconcagua Mountain. “It is the forth climbing, after
previously finish the three summit, that were Kilimanjaro, Carstensz Pyramid, and Elbrus in
February 2016 until July 2017,” said her. After Aconcagua, she will continue to climb the
next three summit in June 2018 until May 2019.
Besides that, she will also explore two polars of the world, north pole and south pole by
skiing. Handayani also carries out educational mission by setting up nature school and
environmental-based science and technology study camp in the hinterland of Papua.
The nature school concept that is going to build is a primary school that will be
collaborated with Gerakan UI Mengajar (UI Teaching Action) for 1 year. “For funding, we
will approach multinational corporation around the target location to maintain their
sustainability,” explained her.
Meanwhile, in the study camp, Handayani who is a graduate of Civil Engineering of FTUI,
will share her knowledges and experiences on Science, Technology, Engineering, &
Mathematics (STEM) to the hinterland children of the area of her exploration, especially
woman. The first camp is planned to collaborate with Indonesia Mengajar in Festival
Puncak Papua Event.
If she successfully finish her mountaineering and exploration mission, she will got “The
Explorers Grand Slam” predicate, which is a title that will be achieved after successfully
conquering the seven summit and exploring the North and South Pole.
If she succeed, she will be the first Indonesian and Southeast Asian Female who achieved
this title. Up to now, there are 58 people who got this title and there are 14 females among
them.
Head of ILUNI UI, Arief Budhy Hardono, said that ILUNI UI support this program in an
attempt to fund collecting and legal basis of event organizing. “This support is given
because this mission is not only a mountaineering, but also a holistic exploration to bring

change and educational contribution in Papua and other hinterland area in Indonesia,” said
him.
