UI SMV Team Wins Asia Pacific Shell Eco-Marathon Autonomous Programming Competition 2022

Universitas Indonesia > UI SMV Team Wins Asia Pacific Shell Eco-Marathon Autonomous Programming Competition 2022

Universitas Indonesia Super Mileage Vehicle (UI-SMV) stroke medals in the 2022 Shell Eco-Marathon Authonomous Programming Competition. The Nakoela and Arjuna Teams were deployed to Autonomous Programming. Nakoela managed to reach the 6th place worldwide and the 3th in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, while Arjuna occupied the 8th worldwide.

The competition, which was held from the 28th of March to the 22th of April 2022, saw the participation of 25 teams throughout the world, including regional clusters covering Asia, the Middle East, America, and Europe. The Nakoela and Arjuna SMV-UI teams was composed of 20 students from the Faculty of Engineering.

The Marathon’s virtual programme was held online for the second time since Covid-19. UI-SMV’s Nakoela and Arjuna teams participated in the Virtual League Table. In this category, teams competed to gather the most points. There are four activities UI-SMV participated in in this category of the Marathon, namely Shell Eco Marathon Quiz, Future Rider, Autonomous Programming, Pitch the Future, and Virtual Off-Track Competition.

“Shell Eco Marathon Quiz is a sub-activity of the competition comprising a question-and-answer session on the history of Shell Eco Marathon In Pitch the Future, the teams pitched ideas to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of certain cars. In this part of the competition, we proposed a robot possessing the capability to change cars’ tires and craft chairs that can adjust itself to drivers’ positions. Then in Autonomous Programming, we designed programmes and codes which are simulated on Carla. Last is the Virtual Off-Track Competition, which involves writing four papers on four different topics. The four topics were Communication Words, Carbon Print in Vehicle, Innovation Awards, and Telemetry,” stated the Chairman of the SMV-UI, Raihan Tsaqif Abyanudin.

In this sort of autonomous programming competition, our teams were required to create programming codes that simulated the cars we created. These cars were then controlled autonomously by the teams during matches. The cars were programmed to reach fifteen checkpoints located in the track. Evaluation was done on the basis of energy usage, distance, CPU usage, and time required by the cars to complete every checkpoints on the map. By this means it is possible to evaluate the efficiencies of the simulations,” said Achmad Alvien Nurhidayatullah, the manager of Nakoela.

The UI-SMV teams designed the autonomous control codes using a software known as Carla. The resulting designs focused with the aim of obtaining routes as speedy as possible, and times and speeds as eficient as possible. These factors contributed to the minimal amount of emission generated by cars designed by the two teams.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU appreciated the achievements accomplished by the students of FTUI participating under the teams. “May the designs created by these students see development, so that they may support the development of more environmental-friendly cars in Indonesia, in particular the development of Systems of Autonomous Control that may ensure the safety and security of users of automotive products in the future. May the SMV-UI teams achive more, including in the upcoming Indonesia Shell Econ Marathon on September 2020.

UI-SMV brought along a total of twenty members of Nakoela and Arjuna to this competition. Their names are Achmad Alvien Nurhidayatullah (Electrical Engineering 2019), Andriko Rasta Indriantomo (Machine Engineering 2020), Arifa Shelina Adjani (Machine Engineering 2020), Ariza Aulia Ghifari (Machine Engineering 2020), Gabriella Emristy (Machine Engineering 2018), Leo Triyana (Machine Engineering 2018), Marsya Renatha Bahasoean (Naval Engineering 2020), Muhammad Alfan Fuad Dzia Ul Haq (Electrical Engineering 2020), Rai Zulfikar Satriagama (Machine Engineering 2019), Ricky Rahman Papudi (Electrical Engineering 2020), Yoga Cahya Nugraha (Machine Engineering 2019), Akmal Rayhan (Machine Engineering 2019), Raihan Tsaqif Abyanudin (Machine Engineering 2019), Rayhan Danendra Wiracalosa (Machine Engineering 2020), Edgar Nagok Nahum (Electrical Engineering 2018), Edward (Machine Engineering 2020), Muammar Shaddam Kusnandar (Machine Engineering 2020), and Stephanus Keagan Riantoputra (Machine Engineering 2018).
