Batik Day at FISIP UI

Women Assembly of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Indonesia (IWK FISIP UI) held an event themed “Batik Day” for two days, from October 11-12, which was located at Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Campus. UI Rector Prof. Dr. der Soz Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri opened this event. The first day was filled with seminar concern to batik, batik fashion wear and batik exhibition. The second day was batik exhibition and also process to make batik. There are three speakers in this batik seminar. First, Dra. Krisnina Maharani Akbar Tanjung, MSi, Head of Yayasan Warna Warni Indonesia, who explained about history, philosophy and batik motive. Second, Daniel, ST from Iwan Tirta Private Collection, expressed how Iwan fought to introduce batik “globally” so it will be well known and favored by celebrity and famous world designer.



UI Career and Scholarship Expo X 2010

Career Development Center of Universitas Indonesia (UI) Alumni Affairs held another UI Career and Scholarship Expo for the tenth times in Balairung, Depok Campus from October 7 to 9. On Thursday morning, October 7, the event was opened by Deputy Rector of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ir. M Anis, M.Met, which was attend by other UI leaders, Yunani Roweda who represented Ministry of Labor and Transmigration, Adi Setyo Wibowo Vice Head of BRI Management Division, main sponsor of the event. The serial event was held on UI Career and Scholarship Expo X 2010, events are: test and selection, scholarship presentation, preparation seminar to continue study, and other presentation from several companies. Project Officer Sandra Fikawati pointed out the aim of this event which was to strengthen education with company by interactively gave scholarship information from scholarship donor and education institution for graduates who want to continue their studies.

Farewell Ceremony of Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Suryawan, MT. After serving for about 34 years, starting from 1976 until 2010, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Suryawan, MT, a lecturer from Department of Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FT UI) entered a period of Purna Bhakti (Pension). The event was held in Chevron Room, Dean FT Building, on September 23, 2010. It was attended by colleagues from Department of Mechanical Engineering (DTM) and DTM FT UI employees and senior lecturer of DTM UI named Prof FT. Nakoela Soenarta, and Ir. Soehari Sargo. The event began with a speech from the Head of FT UI Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M. Eng, and continued with remarks from FT UI Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Sugiarto, M. Eng. Prof. Bambang Suryawan has his turn to deliver message and impression during his duties at FT UI. From his presentation, Prof. Bambang Suryawan told about his flashback stories in bhakti period at the Department of Machine FT UI, starting from his career at FT UI, History of FT UI, his hopes for the development of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the future, and also sending his gratitude for his colleagues at FT UI.

Thursday, September 30, Center of Japanese Study Universitas Indonesia (PSJ UI) has a lot of visitors from two different countries,Indonesia and Japan. Police Science Studies Postgraduate Program & Urban Development Studies Postgraduate Program and Alumni Association of Japanese Area Studies Postgraduate Program Universitas Indonesia, held an international symposium, Learning from Japan Symposium, themed: “Enriching The Way to Crime-Free Society: The Creation of Safe and Secure Urban Living Environment”.



Lotte Foundation Scholarship for 8 UI Students

LOTTE Mart, one of Indonesian Retail Company, granted scholarships for 8 Universitas Indonesia (UI) students. The scholarship handling was held on Wednesday, September 29, at Auditorium Building, FIB Campus, Depok. Present in the events are: LOTTE Foundation Director Mr. Lee Keun Jae, Indonesia’s LOTTE Mart President Mr. Moon Young Pyo and First Secretary of Korean Ambassador in Indonesia Mr. Kim Do Hyung. UI leaderships who attend are: third Deputy Rector Sunarji, S.E, M.M, FIB Dean Dr. Bambang Wibawarta and FE vice DeanJossy P. Moeis, Ph.D. Scholarship were given with amount of $600 per student for one semester.

Thursday, October 4, Centre of Japanese Studies UI (PSJ UI) held international symposium by Japanese Area Studies which cooperated with Nichibunken. This symposium was sponsored by Japan Foundation and Japanese Embassy, themed “Understanding Contemporary Japan”. The symposium was attended by several leaders from several countries (Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Australia and Philippine), among them are: Deputy Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. M. Anis, M. Met., Corporate Secretary, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Surajaya, M.A.; Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Bambang Wibawarta; lecturer from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Sudung Manurung, Syamsul Hadi; Representative of Nichibunken, Inoue Shoichi; lecturer from Sophia University, Sugimura Miki; Representative from Japan Center for Asian Historical Records, Hirano Kenichiro; lecturer from National University of Singapore, Hendrik Meyer-Ohle; lecturer from Monash University, Ross Mouer; lecturer from Chulalongkorn University, Saowalak Suriyawongpaisal. This international symposium discuss about Japanese in modern era.



National Olympic Science of All Indonesian Higher Education (OSN-PTI)

Universitas Indonesia (UI) cooperated with Pertamina held another National Olympic Science of All Indonesian Higher Education (OSN-PTI) for the third time. The opening was held on Monday, September 27 on 9.00 a.m. at Balairung Campus UI, Depok by Directorate General of Higher Education from Ministry of National Education, Prof. Dr. Ir. Djoko Santoso, accompanied by Pertamina Director of Human Resources, Ir. Rukmi Hadihartini, MM and UI Rector Prof.Dr.der Soz. Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri. On this opening ceremonial, it was also attend by: Deputy Rector of Research, Development and Industrial Cooperation, Sunardji S.E., M.M, Deputy Rector of Human Resource, Finance and General Administration, Dr. Ak. Tafsir Nurchamid, M.Si, and Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA), Drs. Adi Basukriadi M.Sc. On the first day, elimination process was done on this competition and participated by 13,500 university students in 33 provinces all over Indonesia. For participants from Jadebotabek, elimination was done at Balairung UI. Amount of 1300 participants from Jadebotabek filled the Balairung that morning.



Freshmen! Welcome to Green Campus of UI

Indonesia considered itself more and more as a “green campus” with newcomers at UI campus area. There are four "freshmen"! These four "freshmen" were trees which relocated and replanted in the right and left of the terrace side of the Centre of Administration University Building at Campus Depok.



A Visit from Women's International Club

Women’s International Club (WIC) came to Universitas Indonesia (UI), Campus Depok on Tuesday morning on September 28. They were welcome warmly by Universitas Indonesia Women Alliance (IWK-UI) at Ruang Sidang(Hearing Room), ninth floor. Their visit to UI was not for usual organization visits, but for a mission related to education.
