Infrastructure National Seminar

Jakarta as Capital State is one of city which has an important role in government sustainability. Therefore, city’s blue print is a must. This is the main background of Infrastructure National Seminar, entitled “Aspek Tata Ruang dalam Pemecahan Masalah Banjir dan Transportasi Perkotaan” (Spatial Aspects in Flooding and Urban Transport Problem Solving), which was organized in cooperation with the Tripartite: UI (Universitas Indonesia)-ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung)-UGM (Universitas Gajah Mada) Research Division at Wisma Makara, Depok campus. The event took place on Tuesday, July 27, and attended by academics, practitioners, and students from all over Indonesia. The Seminar was opened by remarks UI Vice Chancellor for Research, Community Development, and Industry, Sunardji, SE, ME, followed by a presentation from Vice Minister of Public Works, Dr. A. Hermanto Dardak, with paper title ”Menciptakan Tata Ruang Perkotaan dan infrastruktur Perkotaan yang Berkelanjutan” (Creating Urban Spatial Planning and Sustainable Urban Infrastructure).



Closing of 2010 BIPA Mid Semester Program

On Saturday, July 24, Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers, International Language Institute, Universitas Indonesia (BIPA LBI UI) held Closing BIPA Mid semester program for May to July 2010 Period. This event which was held at the end of the program is intended to graduate third BIPA participants who had finished studying Indonesian language and handing graduation certificates for BIPA for them who have completed the course. This time, amount of BIPA participants who will be graduated are: 21 people for BIPA 3 and around 78 participants for BIPA 1 and around 78 participants for BIPA 1 and BIPA 2 for completing BIPA courses. Participants of BIPA program come from various countries, such as: South Korea, Japan, Turkey, United States, Netherlands, China, Mongolia, and Taiwan.



International Conference of BIPA VII Teaching

Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) held International Conference Teaching of Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (KIPBIPA VII) with themed: “Memperkuat Posisi Bahasa Indonesia Di Era Globalisasi Melalui Peningkatan Kualitas Manjemen Pengelolaan dan Pengajaran BIPA” (repositioning the Indonesia Language in the Era of Globalization through the improvement of BIPA management and teaching) which was held from July 29 to 31, 2010 at FIB UI, Depok Campus.

Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Indonesia (FISIP UI) held a seminar themed: “Sosialisasi Pendidikan Inklusi guna Mendorong Penyelenggaraan Disability Center di Perguruan Tinggi di DKI Jakarta dan Sekitarnya”(Inclusion Education Socialization of Disability Center Implementation in Higher Education at DKI Jakarta and near it). The event was opened by FISIP Dean Prof.Dr. Bambang Shergi laksmono, M. Sc which took place on Wednesday, July 28, in Depok campus.



Tinia Budiati Doctoral Promotions

Tinia Budiati, lecturer of Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI), confirmed as first female Doctor of Archaeology in year 2010 on Tuesday, July 20 in the Auditorium Building IX, FIB UI, Depok campus. After delivering brief summary presentation of her dissertation as well as answering questions from board of examiners, she was entitled doctorate with very satisfactory predicate.

Dr. Jérôme Samuel gave a linguistics lecture on Monday, July 26 in room 2401, building II, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) with themed ‘Politik Bahasa di Dunia Malayofon: Sintesa dan Perbandingan dengan judul presentasi Empat Suara di Dunia «Malayofon»: Beda Logat, Beda Wacana’ (Politics of Language in Malayofon World: Synthesis and Comparison with Four Sound presentation in the World «Malayofon »: Different Slang, Different Discourse). Dr. Jérôme Samuel, a lecturer at Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) Paris and a researcher at Centre Asie Sud-Est (CASE).

Lydia Sari Doctoral Promotion

On Thursday, July 22 is an important day for Lydia Sari, Lecturer in Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Atma Jaya Catholic University Jakarta, Indonesia. In those days, Lydia successfully defended her dissertation titled “Analisa Kinerja RCPC V-Blast MIM Kanal Fading Nakagami-m” ("Performance Analysis of RCPC V-Blast MIM Nakagami-m Fading Channels") in Doctoral Promotion Council chaired by Prof. Harry Sudibyo, DEA. Acting as Promoters is Prof. Dr. Ir. Dadang Gunawan, M. Eng and as Co-Promoter Ir. Gunawan Wibisono, M. Sc, Ph.D. The Board consists of Prof. Dr.-Ing Kalamullah Ramli; Dr. Ir. M. Asvial, M. Eng; Dr. Ir. Wahidin Wahab, M. Sc; Dr. Ir. Arman Djohan Diponegoro and Dr. Rudi Lumanto.



Indonesian Chemistry Team won Gold Medal

Indonesian Olympic Chemistry Team supervise by Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Team succeed to achieved Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal in International Chemistry Olympic held at Tokyo, Japan for more than a week, starting from July 20-27, 2010.

Indonesia Contingent member team was mentor from UI, member are: Riswandi Sihombing, Ph.D as Team Leader and also Ismunaryo Moenandar, M.Phil. Meanwhile, mentors are: Dr. Julia Onggo, Dr Deana Wahyuningrum.

These are students’ name who achieved medal:

  • 1. Manoel Manuputty (SMA Penabur, Gading Serpong) Gold Medal
  • 2. Alimatum Nashira (SMAN 1 Yogyakarta)  Silver Medal
  • 3. Stephen Haniel (SMAN 1 Purwokerto) Bronze Medal
  • 4. Agung Hartoko (SMA Taruna Nusantara Magelang) Bronze Medal

This Olympic was participated by 68 countries and more than 270 participants. Success for all Indonesian Olympic Chemistry Team.

Anti-Corruption Seminar

In 2010, Indonesia achieved the highest ranked for most corrupted country in Asia, it moved Universitas Indonesia’s Student Executive Assembly (BEM UI) cooperation with Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to held a seminar entitled: “Membangun Kapasitas Mahasiswa sebagai Agent of Change dalam Mengontrol Anggaran Negara dan Pemberantasan Korupsi” (Building Student’s Capacity as Agents of Change in Control State Budget and Combating Corruption), located at Conference Hall, Universitas Indonesia (UI), on Thursday, July 22, in Depok campus.
