Graduates from Australia Graduated with “Cum Laude” Predicate from Universitas Indonesia

Scott Patrick is one of cum laude graduates from bachelor degree regular program of Faculty of Economic and Business with 3,96 GPA. The graduates from Australia has unique experience that has brought him to successfully got cum laude predicate. There is unusual story behind the reason of why he chose regular program of bachelor degree in Universitas Indonesia. The 28 years old man was previously an army soldier in Australia that was sent to South East Asia several times.

From that journey, Indonesia got his interest. “Indonesia is completely different from Australia. Not only on the culture, but also various aspect. It stole my interest,” said him. The interest was getting stronger as Patrick got engaged with an Indonesian woman. This reason then push him to study in Indonesia in order to improve his Bahasa Indonesia skill that was not good enough.

Patrick registered in bachelor degree regular program in order to do daily interaction in Bahasa Indonesia, not in English. He registered to Economics of FEB UI by foreign students acceptance program in 2012. There are several moments that was memorable for him while studied in UI. “Indonesia is very tolerant and cohesive. There is almost no difference in ethnicity. That was I felt here, in UI. All of my classmates treated me just as usual and they were willing to interact with me,” added him.

Moreover, Patrick also has good impression with UI lecturers quality who evenly also has off-campus career. It makes them has good capability in theory, but also practically. The most obstacle that he felt while study in Indonesia, not in the language nor curriculum, but in mathematic where he has the most lack of. Patrick thinks that average Indonesian students has good capability in mathematic. This is different with him self, because Australian curriculum generally only teaches basic mathematic in almost educational level.

Now Patrick wants to fulfill his dream to explore Indonesia until December. After that, he will go back to Australia as government employees, to continue his dedication for his country after previously served as army soldier.
