FIK UI Held The First International Seminar on Nursing in Indonesia

Faculty of Nursing of Universitas Indonesia (FIK UI) held International Nursing Student

Symposium and Festival (INSympoFest) in three days on November 11 th to 13 th 2016 at

FIK UI building, Depok.

Brought out “Intertwining Nursing and Culture,” theme, the event was aimed to be a

interaction media between nursing students in ASEAN to understand each other's culture.

Culture understanding for nursing sttaff becomes important these days, because nursing is

one kind of labor that will face country disposition dynamically, as stated in ASEAN Mutual

Recognition Arrangement (MRA).

This condition drives nurses to be able to adapt with patient's origin of country, because

nurses need to consider patient's culture in order to communicate and provide nursing.

The event that is planned to be held every two years was opened by Rector of UI, Prof. Dr.

Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met. And Dean of FIK UI, Dra. Junaiti Sahar, Ph.D.

Dr. Jehad Halabi (King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Saudi Arabia)

acted as keynote speakers with presentation titled “Transcultural Collaboration: Its Ever-

growing Importance in Contemporary Nursing Health Care and Education”.

Besides that, there were also several international speakers that explained the recent

issues of nursing world, among of them are Prof. Filomena Matos, Ph.D. (University of

Algarve, Portugal) with “Nurse’s Key Roles in Meeting the International and Global Health

Challenges” and Prof. Cathrine Fowler (Professor in Child and Family Health Nursing di

University of Technology Sydney Australia) with “Implementing Evidence Based and

Culturally Competent Nursing Care in Multicultural Health Care Services”.

Also, there was Prof. Achir Yani S. Hamid, M.N., D.N.Sc., Professor of FIK UI, who

explained about national nursing world issue, titled “Trancultural Nursing in Indonesia:

Past, Present and Future”.
