Depok, September 15th 2023. In an era full of change and challenges, efforts to globalize higher education and research are becoming increasingly important. This can be achieved through international collaboration between universities. Through this cross-border partnership, deeper research can be conducted and open up new opportunities for innovation and discovery that can address current problems on a global scale.
In order to open up more comprehensive research opportunities, the Faculty of Engineering (FT) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) is once again expanding its partnership with Japan through educational and research collaboration with Osaka University. After previously collaborating with the Joining and Welding Research Institute Osaka University, this time, FTUI signed a collaboration with the Graduate School of Engineering Science/School of Engineering Science Osaka University.
This collaboration is focused on student exchange and faculty exchange activities to facilitate FTUI teaching staff and researchers to Osaka University. The exchange program opens the door for students from both institutions to gain learning and research experiences in different academic environments. This certainly helps both parties develop multicultural insight, language skills, and valuable professional connections. In addition, this collaboration will facilitate research exchanges between the two institutions, which will enable FTUI and Osaka University researchers to collaborate on innovative and impactful scientific projects.
Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., Dean of FTUI, said that Osaka University has a strong academic and interdisciplinary research tradition. “This will create opportunities for FTUI lecturers to teach in different academic environments, bring new perspectives to teaching, and contribute to improving the quality of education at both institutions. In addition, this teaching staff exchange will also encourage collaboration on deeper research projects, stimulate innovation, and produce new discoveries that can have a positive impact on a global scale. This collaboration with the world’s best university, which is ranked 80th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking 2024, is a clear example of efforts to globalize higher education and research,” said Prof. Heri.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering Science/School of Engineering Science Osaka University, Prof. Shigeo Wada, warmly welcomed the collaboration plan with FTUI. Prof. Shigeo said, “Collaboration with FTUI is a very important step for us. Osaka University and FTUI have a long history of cooperation and each university has strong experience and expertise in various fields of engineering. We are confident that this collaboration will result in significant scientific achievements.”
The collaboration plan between Osaka University and FTUI was ratified by the signing of a cooperation agreement by Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU. and Prof. Shigeo Wada at Osaka University, on Thursday (14/9). Also present representing FTUI at the ceremony were the Head of the Innovation Entrepreneurship Unit and the Head of the Reverse Engineering Center, Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, S.Si., M.Eng., who was welcomed by Prof. Hiroshi Umakoshi and Prof. Shinji Deguchi from Osaka University.
