Planetary Carbon Certification Program as UI’s Strategic Effort to Reduce Carbon Emissions

The Planetary Carbon Certification Program (PCCP) 2025, a collaboration between the Center for Strategic and Global Studies (CSGS), the School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG) of Universitas Indonesia (UI), and Impax Embrace Harmony, was officially launched on Monday, March 17, on the 5th Floor Hall of the IASTH Building, UI Salemba Campus. PCCP 2025 is a training program focusing on measuring, reporting, and verifying carbon emissions. This program is designed to equip participants with carbon trading mechanisms, environmental regulations, and best practices in carbon emission mitigation.

According to the Head of CSGS SKSG UI, Dr. Shobichatul Aminah, M.Si., this training is UI’s initial step in contributing to reducing carbon emissions. “There is carbon training outside, but it is not as comprehensive as the curriculum that we have prepared. We, from the research center and study center, think that UI with its motto, ‘Excellent and Impactful,’ must be able to contribute to the carbon issue which is currently very important and widely discussed,” she said.

PCCP 2025 consists of three main classes. Course A is an introductory stage that aims to increase awareness and basic knowledge about carbon emissions and their impact on the environment. Course B is designed to deepen participants’ understanding and improve skills in analyzing, measuring, and managing carbon emissions more technically. Course C focuses on professional certification in collaboration with official certification institutions, so that participants gain recognition of competency that can be applied in various industrial sectors.

In the event, the Head of the Center for Sustainable Development Studies UI, Joko Adianto, S.T., M.Ars., Ph.D., emphasized the urgency of this training considering that the construction and green infrastructure sectors play a major role in efforts to reduce carbon emissions. “Carbon trading and emission reduction certification will be crucial aspects of environmental policy in Indonesia. This training is here to build the expertise needed to support the transition to a low-carbon economy,” said Joko.

He highlighted how carbon trading policies in Indonesia are still in the development stage and require academic support and experts who understand the technical aspects of measuring and reporting carbon emissions. Therefore, PCCP 2025 is designed to equip participants with various competencies to contribute to more effective policy implementation. To support carbon emission mitigation, participants can also utilize technology, such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data in monitoring the carbon footprint of the industry.

Deputy Director of SKSG UI, Prof. Dr. Eva Achjani Zulfa, S.H., M.H., hopes that this program can be a concrete step to support national policies related to carbon emissions. She said, “The concept of a green economy demands a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. For this reason, through this program, UI wants to provide education to the public on how to implement the concept of a green economy in Indonesia.”
