UI INCUBATE 2024 Equips New Startups with Business Skills

Universitas Indonesia (UI) through the Directorate of Innovation and Science Techno Park (DISTP) is again holding the UI Incubate 2024 Bootcamp, a three-day business incubation program, from 14 to 16 October 2024, at the RA Suites Hotel, Jakarta. This bootcamp is part of a startup development program supported by funding from the Promoting Research and Innovation through Modern and Efficient Science and Technology Parks Project (PRIME STeP) initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

A total of 33 selected startups participated in various activities including talk shows, capacity building, workshops, sharing sessions, and networking sessions. Ahmad Gamal, S.Ars., M.U.P., Ph.D., Director of DISTP UI, emphasized the importance of this activity to build an innovation ecosystem on the UI campus, which was delayed due to the pandemic for five years. “This program is not just about providing funding, but also providing a program to increase knowledge and build the capacity of prospective founders as one of the most important aspects. Business ideas can continue to develop and be improved, but the ability of startup founders to face challenges and adapt to situations is the key to success,” said Gamal.

Bootcamp participants get the opportunity for substantive training, including market research, prototype development, and business planning. Head of the DISTP UI Business Incubator Sub-Directorate, Prasandhya Astagiri Yusuf, Ph.D., said, “The UI Incubate Bootcamp also provides an opportunity for founders to interact directly with fellow founders to share experiences, achievements, and challenges. In this process, both are able to find creative solutions and come up with new business ideas that were previously unthinkable.”

In addition, DISTP UI fostered startups that have been active on the international stage, such as Agrilytics, Herlens, and Neupsi, also shared knowledge and experience with participants. This provides added value to the program, because participants can learn directly from real experience in managing and developing businesses to the international level.

In addition to UI startup alumni, this bootcamp also invites various practitioners and leading business incubator teams as speakers, including Natali Ardianto (Co-founder & CEO of Lifepack.id), Andreas Senjaya (Co-founder of Founderplus), Ronald Simorangkir (CEO of Mandiri Capital), and Agustin (Center Director of BLOCK71 Indonesia). They guide startup founders in developing the skills needed to run a business, including how to build an effective team, communicate across generations, and understand the basics of business accounting.

By presenting various experts, international startup founders, and successful alumni, the UI Incubate 2024 Bootcamp is expected to produce a generation of young entrepreneurs who are tough, adaptive, and ready to innovate amidst the dynamics of the global market.
