Prof Budi Wiweko Receives Honorary Degree from RANZCOG

Professor of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Indonesia (UI), who is currently the Chair of the UI Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Wiweko, SpOG, subsp. FER, MPH. Int. Aff. RANZCOG, FICRM., officially received the highest honorary degree from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) on Sunday (13/10). The award was given directly by the President of RANZCOG, Dr. Gillian Gibson in Wellington, New Zealand.

Previously, through an official letter received by Prof. Budi Wiweko, or often called Prof. Iko, the President of RANZCOG, Dr. Gillian Gibson, conveyed her congratulations for Prof. Iko’s extraordinary contribution to women’s health, especially in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region. RANZCOG is a world-renowned collegium of obstetricians and gynecologists in Australia and New Zealand committed to improving women’s health through education, training, and research in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In his presentation, Prof. Iko said that this award is not only a personal achievement, but also recognition of the hard work of the entire team and medical community who have been dedicated to improving the quality of reproductive health in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between countries to advance innovation in the health sector, especially in terms of empowering women through better health services and wider access.

“I dedicate this award to all colleagues, researchers, and all parties who have contributed to the development of medical science, especially reproductive health. This is proof that the UI community has a great responsibility in dealing with global health issues,” said Prof. Iko.

As a pioneer in his field, Prof. Iko helped establish several major medical organizations in Indonesia, which focus on innovation and research in reproductive health. Among them are the Indonesian Innovation for Health Technology, Medical Technology Research and Writing Center, Clinical Research Support Unit, and Bioinformatics Core Facility at FKUI.

In addition, Prof. Iko has also made various important innovations in the field of Genomics and Precision Medicine. One of his main innovations is the development of the Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) Nomogram which is used as a predictor of women’s biological age.

To date, Prof. Iko has produced more than 140 publications in Scopus and 62 publications in PubMed. He has an H-index of 15 and has won various research awards, including the Best Researcher of FKUI for several consecutive years and the Best Paper Award at the Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction. His innovations include the development of reproductive technologies such as SMART IVF and the Indonesian Oocyte Calculator (IKO).

This award also recognizes Prof. Iko’s major role in strengthening the relationship between RANZCOG and the Indonesian Obstetrician and Gynecologist Association (InaCOG) and the Indonesian Obstetrician and Gynecologist Association (POGI). The collaborations he has built have encouraged knowledge sharing between organizations, as well as strengthening partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that focus on the exchange of knowledge and best practices in obstetrics and gynecology.
