Three Champion Titles from “The 1st Indonesian Prosthodontics Society Meeting” Events Are Won by FKG UI Students

Scientific work that discusses the effect of various denture base surface modification techniques on soft liner bonding led a student of the Prosthodontic Specialist Dentist Education Program (PPDGS), Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Indonesia (FKG UI) drg. Fernandy Hartono Prasetyo was named the 1st place in the Short Lecture Literature Review category at the “The 1st Indonesian Prosthodontics Society Meeting” competition organized by the Indonesian Prosthodontia Association (IPROSI) in Bali.

“There are various denture base surface modification techniques, such as sandblast, laser, MMA monomer, and others that can be applied to improve the bonding of soft liners. I reviewed these techniques to see whether they are really effective in improving the bonding of the soft liner or not,” said drg. Fernandy.

He further said that the literature was carried out in a scoping review format, and the target of the study was in vitro studies which were expected to provide more in-depth insight on ways to increase the bonding strength between soft liners and removable denture bases. This literature review was conducted under the guidance of drg. Muslita Indrasari, M. Kes., Sp. Pros(K).

“For preparation, I discussed with my mentor quite intensely to finalize my paper and its presentation file. After that, I practiced the presentation independently in order to be fluent in English and make the presentation time sufficient. Finally, I prayed to calm myself down so that I would not be nervous during the presentation,” said drg. Fernandy.

Besides him, drg. Ratih Kemala Putri won the 4th place in the Poster Presentation Case Report category with the title “Altering Occlusal Vertical Dimension in Partially Edentulous Patient with Hybrid Restoration – A Case Report”. Her work featured the creation of a hybrid denture with the creation of a partial metal framework and a fixed denture the need to restore the occlusal vertical dimension to restore the patient’s masticatory function and aesthetics. The success of drg. Ratih is inseparable from the guidance of her advisor Dr. drg. Ratna Sari Dewi, Sp. Pros(K).

“What I bring is a case report. This case has been completed before. I collected all the documentation of the denture making process in the form of photos which were then compiled into a paper. Then I discussed with my advisor drg. Ratna Sari Dewi to finalize the paper. After the paper was finished, I arranged it into a poster according to the rules given by the committee,” said drg. Ratih.

Not only in the academic field, 13 other PPDGS FD UI students also made achievements by winning the 2nd place in the 2022 Art and Culture Competition category. The team consisted of Astrya Fitryanur, Bernardus, Chika Astasari Hadi, Debby Sarita, Felix Triputra, Flavia Vonny Fransisca, Gabriela Lintang Cristandy, Gitta Maharani Octiviana, Glenda Clarissa Swandy, I Gusti Ayu Bella Betari J, Levy Jeremy Marpaung, Sylviani The Wirianto, and Tantia Cita Dewanti Fudhail.

“We prepared by practicing dance together a month before the event. We performed dances from various regions in Indonesia, such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, Betawi, Bali, and Papua,” said drg. I Gusti Ayu Bella Betari J.

Head of the Department of Prosthodontics FKG UI Dr. drg. Ira Tanti, Sp.Pros(K)., expressed his pride for the victory that has been achieved by the Prosthodontics PPDGS FKG UI students. “We have achieved a very honor international achievement by Prosthodontics PPDGS FKG UI students. This will create an increasingatmosphere of competitiveness and encourage our students to always innovate in the field of dentistry, especially in the field of Prosthodontics, and produce the best work. ”

The 1st Indonesian Prosthodontics Society Meeting is an international seminar and congress organized by the Indonesian The 1st Indonesian Prosthodontics Society Meeting Association (IPROSI) with the aim of having a positive impact on the development of the dentistry world. This activity was attended by Prosthodontics specialist study program students from various universities in Indonesia, on September 9-11, 2022.

“A very high appreciation for Prosthodontics PPDGS FKG UI students who have succeeded in achieving international champions in the last two months. This achievement is not the end of the learning process but is the first step to take part in the international arena,” said Dr. drg. Lia Kartika Wulansari Sri Gunoro Puteri, PhD., Sp.Pros(K)., Head of the Prosthodontics Specialist Study Program FKG UI.
