Universitas Indonesia (UI) demonstrated its commitment to expanding access to international education by participating in the Higher Education Exhibition held by Pusat Budaya Indonesia (Indonesian Cultural Center) in Dili, Timor Leste, on October 24-26, 2024. This activity aims to open opportunities for prospective international students, especially from Timor Leste, to continue their studies at one of the best universities in Indonesia. With its presence, UI hopes to reach more students who want to study in Indonesia and raise awareness of the programs offered.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Timor Leste, Okto Dorinus Manik, together with the Indonesian Education and Culture Attaché in Timor Leste, Ikhfan Haris, expressed their appreciation for UI’s participation in this exhibition. Okto stated, “We are very pleased that UI is present in Dili, because the interest of high school students here to study in Indonesia, especially at UI, is very high.” This statement reflects the high hopes of the Indonesian government to increase the number of students continuing their education in Indonesia, while strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
This exhibition succeeded in attracting more than 5,485 visitors, consisting of high school students and college students seeking information about education in Indonesia. They had the opportunity to learn the details of the study programs offered at UI and consult directly about the registration procedures, admission pathways, and various academic opportunities available. UI’s presence at this exhibition is a bridge between prospective students and the educational information they need to make the right decision.
Head of the UI Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure (KIP) Bureau, Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Sc., reported the high enthusiasm of visitors towards the programs offered during the three-day exhibition. She explained, “For foreign students, the selection of new student admissions is held at the beginning of each year. The selection is based on the assessment of report card scores for undergraduate programs and transcripts during college for postgraduate programs.” This indicates that UI pays special attention to international students with a transparent and structured admission system.
In addition, visitors also get detailed information regarding campus locations, tuition fees, and scholarship opportunities from the Indonesian government and UI. Amelita hopes that visitors who are interested in continuing their studies at UI can get accurate information directly from the source. This effort not only facilitates prospective students but also helps parents in choosing the right college for their children.
UI’s participation in this exhibition is real proof of the university’s commitment to supporting the internationalization of education and strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Timor Leste. UI also seeks to reduce the use of printed brochures, encouraging visitors to access information through the official Universitas Indonesia admissions website. One visitor, Sonia Veritas Deus from SMA ESG Kay Rala, said, “After visiting the UI booth, I feel more enthusiastic about choosing UI as the campus where I can achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.” This statement highlights the positive impact of UI’s presence in the exhibition and the aspirations of young students to pursue their education at the best campus in Indonesia.
