Student of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) successfully gain
achievement on international level. Stephen Diah Iskandar, student of FKUI year 2011 got
World Health Summit Award on 27 th European Students Conference 2016. The Event was
held at Charité-Campus Virchow Clinic, Berlin, Germany, on September 28 th to October 1 st
2016.
European Students Conference (ESC) is one of the largest biomedical conference
worldwide. The event has been held since 1989 and gathers the young scientists, medical
students, medical postgraduate students and all people who have interest in biomedical
research to be participated. More than five hundreds particpants shared and observed the
latest invention on biomedical subject.
For this event, Iskandar arranged abstract of a scientific work titled “Characteristic of
Mental Disorder in Patients with Substance Abuse in Primary Healthcare, Indonesia: A
Community Diagnosis”. The scientific work was made by Iskandar and his colleague,
Syeda Tazkia Noor, Okla Sekar Martani and Nurul Istianah. The abstract then got chosen
and received letter of acceptance to be present on poster session of ESC 2016.
The poster presentation was held in two days. Their scientific poster was included in public
health category.
For participant in public health category, ESC prepare prestigious appreciation that was
World Health Summit Award for the best presenter. On the peer review poster presentation
session, 20 researches on public health were presented. Iskandar's research then chosen
as one of the top three researches.
On the second session, presentation was presented in front of three judges from all
categories. In this session, two best researches were chosen, who was Iskandar from
Indonesia and Katarzyna from Poland. Both of them then were given a chance to present
their work in front of Director of World Health Summit Program. Finally, Iskandar was
chosen as the one who got World Health Summit appreciation grant that was held on
October 9 th to 11 th 2016 in Berlin, Germany.
World Health Summit is an public health conference that discuss world health problem.
The event was attended by more than 1.500 participants from all over the world. In this
event, Iskandar got the equal right with the other participants to voice opinions, criticizes,
or giving suggestion about health development together with other experts from all over
the world.
At the end of interview with FKUI public relation staff, Iskandar leave a message for FKUI
students to be brave to take a chance on research competition. Never worried about the
english capability, and make sure that everybody could understand what you are trying to
explain. Self confidence and optimism could be an important asset to perform as best as
possible.
