Universitas Indonesia (UI) Vocational Program held The 1 st International Conference of
Vocational Higher Education (ICVHE) on Tuesday, November 8 th 2016 at Auditorium Baru
Room, UI Vocational Program Building.
The international conference that was titled “Innovation on Vocational Higher Education”
was filled by presentation from 92 participants who present their own scientific papers.
92 scientific papers that was presented had been through abstract selection mechanism
from 1.034 papers abstract that had entered.
The scientific papers were divide into 8 subjects, that were travel & tourism, general paper,
multidisciplinary studies, engineering & technology studies, communication & media
studies, social science & humanities, health & medicine studies, and business,
management, & accounting.
Mingchang Wu, Dean of Humanities & Applied Science, National Yunlin University of
Science Technology, Taiwan became the keynote speaker on this international conference.
He presented a presentation material titled “The Innovative Policies & Practices of
Vocational Education in Taiwan” that told about the history of vocational education
establishment, challenge for vocational education, and vocational education system in
Taiwan as well.
In his presentation, Wu said that there are 3 keys to develop vocational education in
Taiwan, that are government support, standardized educational system and its suitability
with industrial needs, and majors that focus on science and technology.
“In our educational system, students are asked to think about their life plans in junior high
school level, so that vocational school admission in Taiwan are quite high, because the
young people know their interests and life goals,” said Wu.
Government also give their support in the form of fundings, curriculum evaluation every 4
years, business incubation development, regional vocational center, and qualified
teachers.
The teachers development are applied by master's and doctoral degree for vocational
students, so that it gives impact to lecturers quality at vocational institutions in Taiwan.
