Linguistics has developed through collaboration with other disciplines to obtain more practical benefits in human life. The development of linguistic branches, interdisciplinary or applied, provides explanation more on the role of language in human life in many aspects. Various aspects related to language are studied with relevant disciplines, such as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, neurolinguistics, language teaching, translation studies, interpreting studies, and philology. Moreover, many other fields are deeply observed with language, such as law, geography, semiotics, health, and architecture. Linguistic development is supported by studies connected to the aspects of human life. Various forums to disseminate language research are held to gather the researchers to share their study results, among others through discussion of small groups, seminars, and conferences.

The 2018 International Conference on Transdisciplinary Linguistics is an international forum facilitating the researchers of linguistics and other sciences using language in their studies to share knowledge and experience on the most modern ones. The conference presenting keynote and plenary speakers from Indonesia and abroad opens an opportunity for discussion and professional networking in various types of research in connection with linguistics.

The main theme of this conference is “The Role of Language in All Aspects of Human Life”. This big theme is meant to open our horizon that linguistics is not only a science analyzing language structure and meaning but also related to various roles and functions of all aspects of human life. This main theme is supported by many subthemes showing the richness of studies on language.
