USING THE NIGHT RUN CONCEPT, UI ULTRA 2022 CHALLENGED 800 RUNNERS TO FINISH #70KCHALLENGE
The conducive situation from the COVID-19 pandemic has allowed Universitas Indonesia (UI) with FEUI Runners and the Faculty of Economics and Business Alumni Association (ILUNI FEB) to hold UI Ultra 2022 marathon offline for the first time on November 26–27, after previously held virtually. Ultra 2022 is a 70K marathon running around UI Campus, Depok. Participants run around several UI landmarks to complete the #70KCHALLENGE. This 70K challenge can be completed individually or in groups with a relay system.
There are four categories in this competition, which are Relay 10 (7K), Relay 5 (14K), Relay 2 (35K), and Individual (70K). For the Relay category, runners can do a loop race alternately according to a specified distance. In Relay 10 (7K), 10 people took the 7K challenge with each participant covering a distance of 7 km. Relay 5 (14K) means that a distance of 70 km is covered by 5 people with each participant running 14 km. Relay 5 (14K) means that a distance of 70 km is covered by 5 people with each participant running 14 km. Meanwhile, for Relay 2 (35K), there are two participants who cover this distance, and for the Individual category, the 70 km distance is done individually.
UI Ultra 2022 was attended by 800 participants from all categories. They are long-distance running enthusiats from FEB UI alumni, UI alumni, and general public. By carrying out the concept of a night run, UI Ultra 2022 were held at night with a duration of 12 hours, from 20.00–08.00 WIB. The choice of running time at night is to avoid the hot sun which makes the running load even heavier, especially for Individual and Relay 2 runners.
In organizing this activity, the committee provided lots of velbeds in the race village which is a transition area for changing runners, so the waiting runners can rest. The committee also provided a live report on the position of the runners which could be watched by other participants via a television screen connected to Youtube so that the next runners can get ready. Photographers were also provided throughout the route to capture the pictures of the participants, and the photos can be accessed for free on Instagram UI Ultra 2022.
Dean of FEB UI Teguh Dartanto, Ph.D. in his remarks stated that running at night has a certain message. Conditions at night are unpredictable conditions. Sometimes dark, sometimes dim, sometimes bright. However, if one is properly prepared, one can still run in these conditions. It becomes a symbol when a person is faced with a future full of uncertainty. Future challenges can be passed if he prepares for them earnestly. Sometimes dark, sometimes dim, sometimes bright. “The number of relays in this competition is a symbol that relay running is easier than running alone. This also illustrates that in order to achieve goals in the future, there needs to be collaboration from various parties so that common goals can be more easily achieved.
On the same side with Teguh, Director of the Directorate of Graduate Career Development and Alumni Relations (DPKHA) UI Ir. Ahmad Syafiq, M.Sc., Ph.D. also welcomed this activity. The tagline “Return Strong”, according to Syafiq, is in accordance with the current conditions, which is the pandemic that is starting to be under control. “I think this activity is an icon, not only for ILUNI FEB, ILUNI UI, but also UI as a whole. This activity is also a symbol that we are ready to come back strong, like the #ReturnStrong hashtag. This activity is also a symbol that we are ready to come back strong, like the #ReturnStrong hashtag. Hopefully, this activity will provide great benefits for all of us, and UI is grateful for holding this event,” said Syafiq.

According to Race Director of UI Ultra 2022 Dinny Reza, UI Ultra 2022 carries the concept of charity for Dana Abadi UI and FEB UI. Part of the registration money from the participants will be donated to the implementation of education at UI. In addition, this activity aims to strengthen the friendship ties between FEB UI alumni, UI alumni, and friendship with other runner communities.
“I hope this can become a routine annual agenda that provides one race for runners who want to run aside from a marathon, but we still have a category for short-distance run. Of course, this activity can be a gathering place for runners, both at Universitas Indonesia and runners from other communities,” said Dinny.
Apart from running competitions, this activity was also enlivened by musical performances and culinary offerings from various MSMEs. The success of organizing this activity was also due to the synergy of several parties. In collaboration with Universitas Indonesia Hospital (RSUI), Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital, and Physiotherapy of Vocational UI, the committee with a team of medical and physiotherapists provided medicines in several health tents and race villages. In terms of security, the committee was working with Depok Resort Police and Beji Sectoral Police, which deployed 30 personnel, and PLK UI, which deployed 50 members.
This event was also supported by several partners, including Agung Concern, Bank Mandiri, Perwosi, BUMA, National Electricity Company (PLN), Krakatau Steel, Le Minerale, Bank Syariah Indonesia, PT. SMI, Pertamina Geothermal Energi (PGE), Garuda Indonesia, RSUI, Investree, Bank Tabungan Negara, Indonesia Stock Exchange, Angkasa Pura 2, Kereta Api Indonesia, and Wellspro.
