Faculty of Public Health

The establishment of the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia, is the initiative of Doctor Mochtar, Head of the Department of Public Health and Medical Community FKUI. In collaboration with USAID, the first program offered was the SKM, equivalent to a Master in Public Health.

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 26 of 1965, dated February 26, 1965, decided that the Faculty of Public Health was formed under the auspices of Universitas Indonesia. Then through the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 153 of 1965, the FKM UI was established on July 1, 1965.

In 1987 the Bachelor of Public Health Program was opened to qualify as a faculty by the Education Law in Indonesia. Furthermore, since 1990 FKM UI has offered master’s education in the field of Public Health Sciences, followed by the opening of other master’s programs such as Hospital Administration Studies, Epidemiology, and Occupational Safety and Health. In addition, in 1994, FKM UI opened Diploma III (a 3-year vocational program after high school education in various health fields). However, to meet the demands of the university’s vision to prioritize research and become a world-class university, the program was closed in 2004. Currently, the Vocational Education Program UI manages the diploma program at the university level.

In 2013 FKM UI developed into a provider of public health education services ranging from Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral Programs, and has 12 study centres, seven departments, and two study groups.

Following the demands of the times and changes that cannot be avoided, by bearing the title of the oldest faculty in the field of public health, FKM UI continues to make improvements and evaluate itself to remain at the forefront of public health science.
