Dozens of UI Researchers’ Works Were Displayed in Various Side Events of the G20 Presidency of Indonesia

Universitas Indonesia (UI) presented various works of the nation’s young generation at The 2nd International Association for Deposit Insurers (IADI)–Asia Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) Study Visit and International Deposit Insurance Corporation (IDIC) International Seminar 2022, on November 7–9. The exhibition which took place at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali was a collaboration between UI and Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (IDIC). On November 11, the exhibition continued at the Bloomberg CEO Forum 2022 event. The exhibition which was attended by UI aims to support innovations created by academia, as well as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

UI Rector Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. said that the progress of UI researchers in various research fields deserves high appreciation, and their development needs to be further enhanced in the future through the support of various related parties. Their contribution contributed to the implementation of the G20 Presidency of Indonesia under the title Recover Together, Recover Stronger. “UI continues to move to promote the results of collaboration between universities, the government, and industrial partners for the advancement of science, research, and innovation that have an impact on society. Congratulations and success for Indonesia!” said Prof. Ari.

UI displayed 35 innovative products which were divided into 6 categories, namely food, health, engineering, business, information and communication technology (ICT), and security. For the food category, UI presented Hard Candy and liquid propolis called EZ Trigona Propolis Extract. This propolis has immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activity, so it can be used as a supplement to increase endurance. Propolis developed by Dr. Eng. Muhamad Sahlan, S.Si, M.Eng. and facilitated by i-CELL, the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI is currently being tested as a companion therapy in the treatment of Covid-19.

In the business, ICT, and security categories, UI displayed Indonesian SME brands, Submit-Manuscript.Org and Secure HT-box respectively. Meanwhile, in the field of engineering, there were eight products on display, namely Degastab, Bio-Oil as a Biopesticide, ALFLUKS NF11, ALFLUKS NF 15, ALFLUKS NF16, ALFLUKS NF20, Fulfural and Levulinic Acid Production Machines, and Flexible Joints.

A total of 23 other products displayed by UI at the exhibition are innovations in the health sector. These products were Liquid Propolis Soap, Transparent Propolis Soap, Belimbing Island Beauty Products, Periarticular External Fixation Apparatus, C-clamp Modified Pelvic Fixation Apparatus, Eye Implants, Facial Bone Implants–Screws, Facial Bone Implants–Bone Plates, DBD Kits, Propolis Antioxidants Spray Dry, Covent–Ventilator Type 1, Flocked Swab, Digital Microcapillary, Propolis Dental and Oral Health, PPE Respirator, Air Disinfection, Respiratory Sterilizer, PUVICON3/PLASMAFAN, Kinesia Tool, Sambiloto Extract Products, VR Airway Management, VR CPR, and Flolis.

All of these innovations were displayed in a virtual gallery which can be accessed on the website www.innovationgallery.ui.ac.id. These products are the result of multidisciplinary collaboration or collaboration between faculties and industry. Covent-20, for example, is the result of a collaboration between FT UI and UI’s Research Center for Biomedical Engineering (RCBE). This type of transport ventilator serves to help patients with respiratory failure and can also be used for Covid-19 patients. The advantages of Covent-20 are low pressure, high pressure, and battery alarms. Covent-20 can be used for 4 hours without electricity because it uses a battery. Its compact and simple shape makes it easy to use on ambulance trips to the isolation room. RCBE UI is also working with PT Sri Tita Medika to create the HS-19 Flocked Swab. This flocked swab was produced after going through research and testing stages at the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine (FK) UI. 50,000 units of this device have been produced for the first batch and distributed to various hospitals through the network of FK UI doctors from class of 1995. The shape of swab stick is like a stick, small, and flexible enough to make it easy to sample patients in the nasopharynx.

In addition, several innovations were also produced by researchers from the the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of UI. These innovations are Therapy Devices and Sterilizers, Battery Powered Air Purifying Respirator PPE, as well as UVC-Based Air Disinfection Devices and Negarive Ionizers. Therapeutic Equipment and Sterilizers are used to help respiratory therapy for Covid-19 patients. Meanwhile, Battery Powered Air Purifying Respirator PPE is used to protect medical personnel when treating Covid-19 patients. This PPE has a battery life of up to 6 hours, can be used indoors or outdoors, as well as has a full face mask that is cooler and airtight.

In holding the G20 Presidency Summit of Indonesia, last November 15-16, UI also presented the Red and White Electric UI Bus innovation which was used to assist the mobility of the delegates and the people involved in the event. According to Vice Chancellor for Finance and Logistics Vita Silvira, S.E., MBA., UI is currently on its way to becoming an entrepreneurial university. This requires the involvement of all parties, including lecturers, staff, students, and alumni. “Related to research and innovation from lecturers, some of the funds used came from UI and companies that cooperate with UI. Of course we will make policies that can build a sense of ownership or a sense of belonging from lecturers to UI,” said Vita.
