EARNING A PERFECT GPA, SYAHRIL ADITYA GINANJAR RESEARCHED ENERGY EFFICIENCY TO REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS

Syahril Aditya Ginanjar is a UI student who graduated last week, earning Summa Cumlaude honor with a perfect GPA (4.0) from the Engineering Professional Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI). Through his research entitled “Meningkatkan Efisiensi Energi melalui Dedieselisasi Driver Engine Pompa Sungai Rokan PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional–Dumai dengan Suplai Listrik 20 kV”, Syahril initiated a new driver system to improve energy efficiency. This research shows that the efficiencies that have been successfully carried out are equivalent to a nominal value of IDR 31.941.504.000/year or a total of IDR 766.596.096.000 for 24 years from the planned project life.

The efficiency can reduce carbon emissions in the air as exhaust or residual combustion from diesel engines, which currently use electricity supply with low carbon emissions. In fact, if the electricity used comes from renewable energy, no more carbon emissions will be produced. “This step is in line with the 2060 Net Zero Emissions program echoed by the Indonesian government. We hope that this efficiency will lower production costs for the supply of water to the Pertamina Dumai Refinery so that people can buy fuel at a cheaper price,” said Syahril, who hopes that the results of this research will have a positive impact on society and Indonesia.

The success of this research is inseparable from the support of the lecturers at the Engineering Professional Program of FTUI. Syahril acknowledged that the education he took at UI really supported his work in engineering in the energy sector. “I took the Engineering Professional Program at UI because I know that the lecturers, the academic and administration staff, the education system, and the facilities at UI have exceptionally good quality. This Program at UI is also managed very professionally,” said Syahril.

According to his experience, he considered the learning activities in the Engineering Professional Program of FTUI very strict. Lecturers and academic advisors not only provide knowledge in the form of lecture material but also hands-on learning. In addition, UI also has an extensive network, both with industry, government, other research or educational institutions, business, and the community.

Syahril said, he attended the classes during the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning that he had to attend the lectures online, following the health protocols applied at UI. Despite that, learning facilities and systems are very supportive, such as the availability of learning applications that can be accessed online and the strict registration process that is user-friendly, making it easy to access and use. “I am proud to be able to study at UI and proud to be UI’s alumnus. I hope that UI will remain the top campus preferred by prospective students at all levels. Keep moving forward to uphold Veritas, Probitas, Iustitia for a better UI!” Syahril said.

Currently, Syahril works as a Project Engineer at PT Pertamina (Persero) at Sub Holding Refining & Petrochemical – PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional – Unit 2 Dumai. He also serves as Secretary at the Dumai City Branch of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia. In addition to these activities, he also formed a start-up called SCI Renewables, which is engaged in new and renewable energy. After studying at UI, in the future, Syahril wants to collaborate with various parties to realize his dream of becoming an energy expert, both as a CEO of a company, as well as a top executive in the workplace.
