LAUNCHING MARINE ENGINEERING AND BIOPROCESS ENGINEERING STUDY PROGRAMS, FTUI PREPARES STUDENTS TO BE READY TO COMPETE AT THE GLOBAL LEVEL
Two new study programs are offered by FTUI for International Undergraduate Program. The two new study programs are Marine Engineering and Bioprocess Engineering. With the addition of these two study programs, the choice of study programs available for the FTUI International Undergraduate Program has expanded from seven study programs to nine study programs for the admission of new UI students for the 2023/2024 academic year.
“The International Undergraduate Program opens opportunities for FTUI students to gain access to high-quality education at the best engineering campus in Indonesia and abroad. After studying for 3.5-4 years, the students will earn two bachelor’s degrees, from UI and from our partner universities which are one of the best universities in the world. We hope the graduates of this program will be able to compete at the international level and take advantage of international networks to work in the future,” said Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., the Dean of FTUI.
“The International Undergraduate Program is a UI education program that provides a global experience in learning by using English as the language of instruction in class. FTUI has been holding a double degree program for this class since 1999, where the students will receive two bachelor’s degrees. Starting in 2011, FTUI opened a single degree program where students get access to education at foreign partner universities for at least one semester and graduate with a bachelor’s degree from UI. The age limit for applicants for this program is five years from the year of high school graduation,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., the Head of the Education Modernization and Internationalization Unit, who is also the Head of the International Office of FTUI.
Marine Engineering Study Program is an engineering discipline that focuses on ship design, ship production process, ship repair activities, ship machinery, maritime regulations, and basic knowledge of marine transportation management.
“Apart from the single degree program, we also have partners to collaborate for the double degree program, which are the Department of Naval Architecture Ocean & Marine Engineering, University of Strathclyde, UK. This partner is ranked first in Europe for the field of Marine/Ocean Engineering based on the 2022 Shanghai University Ranking. Currently, we are also exploring opportunities for a double degree with Seoul National University, which is one of the best campuses in South Korea,” said Dr. Eng. Muhammad Arif Budiyanto, ST., MT., the Head of Marine Engineering Study Program FTUI.
Bioprocess Engineering Study Program is a scientific discipline in the field of chemical and biochemical engineering. Students of this study program learn the basics of engineering science and bioprocess technology engineering. It is hoped that students will be able to manage biological production systems and processes and provide alternative solutions to biological engineering problems in accordance with professional ethics. Graduates of this study program are predicted to have the knowledge, skills, and experience to be applied in the world of work and in the field of chemical process technology.
“International Class Study Program in Bioprocess Engineering is open for both single and double-degree options. In the double degree option, we have partnered with two of the best universities in Australia, namely Monash University and the University of Queensland to provide students with the best international engineering education at home and abroad. We hope that in the future our graduates from this study program will be able to develop themselves as industrial planners and managers and be able to develop their knowledge, especially to compete in the international world,” said Head of the Bioprocess Engineering Study Program FTUI Dr. Tania Surya Utami, S.T., M.T.
In the 2023/2024 academic year, FTUI has opened nine international undergraduate study programs for single and double-degree options. The nine study programs are Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Bioprocess Engineering.
