“Indonesia must be good at navigating, because the G20 forum is an economic forum. The President said, do not be influenced by other things. The president will lobby for leaders of other countries to attend. There is still a chance until July 2022, and Indonesia must make a decision. Currently, the Russia-Ukraine war cannot be separated from the G20. From the G20 forum, Indonesia’s economic benefits are numerous. One of them is trying to capitalize, implementing concrete things by showing Indonesia as an environmentally friendly country, namely the energy transition mechanism. 5.5 Gigawatts of electricity that want to retire early will be replaced with renewable energy such as geothermal, wind, solar panels, and others,” said General TNI (Purn) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, M.P.A Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, when he was a speaker at a public lecture at Universitas Indonesia (UI), Depok Campus, Depok (12/4).

Luhut’s presentation was an answer to a question from one of the UI students from the science and technology family who was a participant in the Minister Talk: “Awakening Together, Rising Stronger: Indonesia Meets the Post-Covid-19 Pandemic” which was held at the UI Convention Center. He asked questions about the Government’s strategy in taking advantage of Indonesia’s position as Chair of the G20 for the benefit of Indonesia’s economic recovery or revival.

“Can universities in G20 member countries be empowered by each member country to be part of efforts to ease tensions and political and economic solutions among G20 members?” said another questioner, a student participating in the integrated personality development course from the social humanities group. Luhut responded quickly to the question by saying that a discussion forum would be held at UI and promised that a presenter and moderator would be provided. According to him, students also have a role in the G20 forum and make this moment an experience that students hope can learn from the forum.

The holding of the Minister Talk by presenting the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia is expected to open up the thinking horizons of UI students and become a venue for elegantly expressing opinions. The discussion forum between Universities from the G20 countries that was asked in the lecture was also expected to offer various alternative solutions to problems because Universities have a moral calling role which is expected to reduce tension. This is in line with the direction of the Government of Indonesia, which expects G20 member countries to work together to become a solution to problems, especially the economy that is engulfing the world.

Through the Minister Talk with the title “Rise Together, Rise Stronger: Indonesia Meets the Post-Covid-19 Pandemic”, UI continues to be committed to implementing the policy of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program by presenting guest lecturers or qualified resource persons. This is one of UI’s efforts in integrated personality development courses that provide opportunities for students to hone their skills in preparation for producing graduates who are globally competitive..
