Depok, August 9th 2023. The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG), Universitas Indonesia (UI) held an inauguration ceremony for the graduation of the first batch of seven International Class students, which took place at the FKG UI Hall, Salemba Campus, Central Jakarta, at the end of July 2023. They successfully completed their undergraduate education in dentistry from UI and the University of Melbourne, Australia. These graduates officially hold two degrees at once (Double Degree), namely Bachelor of Dentistry (S.K.G) and Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci).

Dean of FKG UI, Dr. drg. Nia Ayu Ismaniati, MDSc., Sp.Ort(K) together with the Director of International, University of Melbourne, Associate Professor Roy Judge presented the graduates with graduation certificates and alumni pins from the University of Melbourne. From the academic report submitted by the Vice Dean of FKG UI for Education, Research & Student Affairs, Dr. drg. Ria Puspitawati, PBO, said that out of the seven students, six of them received cum laude predicates and one graduated with a very satisfactory predicate. The three students with the highest GPA were Trisha Sarah Siagian (3.84), Syahrani Faza Putri Mahendra (3.78), and Grace Chriselly (3.77).

“The graduation of these seven students is a matter of pride for us from the University of Melbourne, because we have succeeded in bringing our proud FKG UI students to complete their education with a BMedSci degree. We hope that the knowledge and experience gained during the learning process can become a provision in becoming a professional health individual for the community, nation, and state. Our message is, never stop learning so that your abilities continue to be sharpened. We also convey our appreciation to FKG UI for the cooperation that has been well developed so far, hopefully it can continue to be improved,” said Professor Roy Judge.

The first class of this international class started in 2019 with a total of 16 students. They completed 128 credits over six semesters at FKG UI and continued with education abroad for two semesters. Of the 16 students, seven went to the University of Melbourne, Australia; seven people to Newcastle University, UK; and two more will be leaving this year, respectively for The University of Leeds and Newcastle University.

“It’s a historic day for FKG UI because for the first time the first batch of students from the international class program graduated. Congratulations to the graduates who made it through a long phase of struggle, but thanks to the persistence and support from their families, lecturers, and all parties, these periods passed with excellent results. After this, you will enter a professional program for four semesters, prepare yourself both physically and mentally and improve your skills and competencies to become a professional dentist,” said Dr. Nia.
