The University of Indonesia (UI) continues to soar towards the best position in Indonesia through superior assessments in three broad subject areas and 12 fields of study. The best ranking in Indonesia is based on an assessment conducted by The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject in 2022 (12th edition of the world’s top university ranking). The three field of study disciplines are Art and Humanities (5th in Southeast Asia, 200th in the world), Life Sciences and Medicine (9th in Southeast Asia, 348th in the world), and Social Sciences and Management(5th in Southeast Asia, 112 in the world).

Of the three knowledge groups, UI managed to rank first in the fields of Accounting and Finance (6th Southeast Asia, 151-200 world), Anthropology (2nd Southeast Asia, 101-140 world), Communication and Media Studies (5th Southeast Asia, 201-240 world), Medicine(9th Southeast Asia, 201-250 world), Philosophy(6th Southeast Asia, 101-150 world), Politics(5th Southeast Asia, 101 -150 world), Business and Management Studies (11th Southeast Asia, 201-250 world), Law and Legal Studies (6th Southeast Asia, 101-150 world), Modern Languages ​​(6th Southeast Asia, 151- 200 in the world), Social Policy and Administration (5th in Southeast Asia, 51-100 in the world), and Biological Sciences (16th in Southeast Asia, 551-600 in the world). In the Engineering and Technology science cluster (2nd in Indonesia, 11th in Southeast Asia, and 243 in the world) there is one field of study that ranks first in Indonesia, namely Computer Science and Information Systems (6th Southeast Asia, 201-250 world).

Furthermore, eight other fields of study at UI that have successfully entered the world rankings, are Electrical and Electronic Engineering (12th Southeast Asia, 251-300 world), Mechanical Engineering (14th Southeast Asia, 301-350 world), Geography(5th Southeast Asia, 151-200 world), Physics and Astronomy (12th Southeast Asia, 501-550 world), Sociology(6th Southeast Asia, 201-250 world), Architecture and Built Environment (th -10 Southeast Asia, 151-200 world), Economics & Econometrics (13th Southeast Asia, 301-350) and Chemical Engineering (12th Southeast Asia, 251-300 world). The eight fields of study are ranked as the second best in Indonesia This achievement shows that Universitas Indonesia (UI) as the best university in Indonesia has succeeded in being recognized by the world and is included in the ranks of superior universities among 1,543 universities from 88 countries, and 51 disciplines.

UI Chancellor Prof. Ari Kuncoro, SE, MA, Ph.D said, “Of course we are proud of this achievement, but UI continues to push itself to be in the top five best universities in Southeast Asia. The collaboration of various kinds of knowledge available on the UI Campus is expected to result in the development of knowledge, invention breakthroughs, and various creative innovations that are beneficial for the community and the Indonesian nation.” He added, “Every study program organized by UI, both vocational, undergraduate, and postgraduate education programs, is able to produce graduates who are globally competitive,” said Prof. Ari next.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 covers a total of 51 disciplines, which are grouped into five disciplines. This ranking was released by QS to help the public identify the leading universities in a particular science field and/or particular field of science.

The ranking of universities in the world based on this field of science is determined based on an assessment of five indicators, namely academic reputation, the results of a global survey conducted on graduate users and academics, the number of research citations achieved by the university per paper in the subject (all citation data sourced from Elsevier Scopus ), the ‘H-index’ which measures the productivity and impact of published academic research, and the International Research Network which reflects the ability of institutions to diversify the geography of their international research network by building ongoing research partnerships with other higher education institutions.
