The University of Indonesia and the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) have collaborated for quite a long time, and this was outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2015. Therefore, UMKC had a visit and meeting on Campus on Wednesday. There were discussions regarding the development of programs for student and lecturer exchange, as well as research and technology.
Secretary of the University, dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D., said that UI and UMKC would improve the collaboration. “Through this meeting, hopefully, more collaborative actions will be achieved between the two universities. We can start with simple collaborative activities, then more complex ones such as joint research or joining double degree and joint degree programs,” said Dr. Augustine.
The Chancellor of the University of Missouri Kansas City, C. Mauli Agrawal, Ph.D., positively welcomed this idea. A remarkable and new collaboration that has never been done before, is the collaboration of the master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. Students study at UI for 3 years and one year at UMKC to get a Bachelor’s degree then continue with the Masters’s and Doctoral programs for one year each at UMKC. She also introduced Computer Science study program at UMKC. UMKC has a computer laboratory with a data science and analytics innovation center that specializes in artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber security.” said Agrawal.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Ir. Petrus Mursanto, M.Sc., said it’s necessary to map the computer science and information system curriculum. UMKC’s superiority in computer science enables the realization of concrete collaborative development and incorporates curricula in international programs,” he said.
UI has international programs in the Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Psychology, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. For the last eight years, the projects done by the two universities included collaboration in academic and organizational development, student and lecturer exchange, and scientific information. We hope that the collaboration will expand to other aspects. Discussions will continue based on the commitments in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2015.
This meeting was also attended by the Deputy Director of the School of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Dony Abdul Chalid, S.E., M.M., Director of Academic Development and Learning Resources, Drs. Gatot Fatwanto Hertono, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the International Affairs Office, drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.KKK, Ph.D., and Head of the UI Public Relations and Openness of Public Information Bureau, Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Sc.
