Universitas Indonesia (UI) fulfilled its achievement of being number one in Indonesia based on the assessment conducted by the 2022 QS Asia University Rankings. Rector of UI Prof. Ari Kuncoro responded positively to the results released by the 2022 QS Asia University Rankings and said, “Thank you to all UI academics for all the hard work so far and making UI the best university in Indonesia.” Nonetheless, Prof. Ari reminded, “Do not be complacent for the results that we have received. National University of Singapore has been named the best university in Asia, for four consecutive years. The assessment was conducted by the 2022 QS of 687 universities in Asia, including forty new entries.
In the table presented, the 2022 QS explains eleven main indicators of university performance, which include academic standing, graduate employability, research quality and productivity, internationalization on campus, and the diversity of international collaborations for each institution. There are 33 universities in Indonesian in this edition’s ranking; sixteen universities ranks higher this year, fourteen universities ranks lower, and three universities are new entries. Both international academics and employers value Indonesia’s leading institutions: four in the top 100 for academic reputation and six for employer reputation. UI (ranked 56th out of 250 universities in Asia) is the leading university and has climbed three ranks year after year.
It is also the preferred university in Indonesia by 75,000 international employers surveyed by QS, and it ranks 44th in the Employer Reputation indicator. Universitas Indonesia receives the title of the second best in the Academic Reputation indicator, based on a survey of 130,000 academics and ranks 43rd β two other local universities are in the top 50 and two are in the top 100. The best ranking at the indicator level is Outbound Exchange Students with a regional ranking of 22nd, while Inbound Exchange Students ranks 31st. Ben Sowter, the Director of Research QS, said, βIn this year’s edition, a comparison of universities in Asia shows that the best universities in Indonesia are enjoying recognition from the global academic community and international recruitment managers. For further advancement, Indonesia’s higher education leaders must build research capabilities and infrastructure to compete regionally with countries whose research tradition is broader.β
