Depok, July 25th 2023. Another glorious achievement has made Universitas Indonesia (UI) proud at the international level. This time, the student team from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Indonesia (FKG UI) succeeded in breaking into the Top 3 at the 2023 International Stomalogical Students Clinical Skill Competition. As the only team to represent Indonesia at this international event, the FKG UI student team succeeded in going through four stages of the competition. These stages included cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and chopstick skills, suturing and dental anatomy drawing, class II preparation, as well as intra-oral scanning and clinical thinking.

This event was part of a series of “Campus Asia Plus Symposium and University Immersion Program (CAPS UIP) 2023” activities held at the West China School of Stomalogy, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China. The team, consisting of Athaya Angel Wardhani, Caroline Sugandi, M. Ilham Prima Adiputera, were FKG UI students from batch 2020. Thanks to their competence and good team collaboration, the UI delegation managed to beat 130 other participants from Japan, Thailand and Korea.

Campus Asia Plus Symposium and University Immersion Program (CAPS UIP) 2023 took place from 25 June – 09 July 2023, attended by Faculty of Dentistry from five countries, namely West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China; Graduate School of Dentistry Tohoku University, Japan; School of Dentistry Seoul National University, Korea; Faculty of Dentistry Chulalangkorn University, Thailand; Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Indonesia. This event was the second competition held by West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University, China and Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University Japan. The agenda of this program included interactive lectures from international speakers, faculty & hospital tours, clinical skills competitions and cultural activities.

At CAPS UIP 2023, FKG UI also sent three of its best lecturers as source person with topics according to their respective fields of expertise, including Dr. drg. Dewa Ayu NPA, Sp.KG(K), From Basic Pulp-Periapical Diagnosis to Advance Identification of Periodontal Involvement; drg. Nina Ariani, Sp.Pros(K), Ph.D., The ‘Forgotten’ Patient: Introduction to Maxillofacial Prosthesis; drg. Benso Sulijaya, Sp.Perio(K)., Ph.D., Staging and Grading of Periodontitis: Implement the Latest Periodontal Disease Classification to Clinical Settings. The presentations were delivered at an international scientific forum session with fifteen other speakers from various countries.

Dean of FKG UI, Dr. drg. Nia Ayu Ismaniati, MDSc., Sp.Ort(K) said, the success of the FKG UI student team to enter the Top 3 ranks in this prestigious scientific competition event is proof that the competence of FKG UI academics is very much taken into account at the international level. This is because the participants who participated came from well-known universities and have the best reputation. “Hopefully this achievement will be a motivation to continue honing knowledge and experience to face higher competition in the future,” said Dr. Nia.

Dr. Nia also appreciated the three FKG UI lecturers who have successfully become speakers at CAPS UIP 2023. “Hopefully, the scientific analysis presented can have a positive impact on the development of Dentistry, especially in the Asian region,”said Dr. Nia.
