Barijani Mahesa Putra, student of the Public Relations Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) looked stunning in the 2022 Bantul Regent Cup II 2022 roller skating championship. He won three medals; two gold medals in the Men’s 500m+ D Senior category and the Men’s Senior 1000m category, as well as one silver medal in the Men’s Senior 3 km Relay category.
Mahesa expressed his gratitude for the achievement. To him, the achirvement will continue to motivate him to compete again in other championships. He is a representative roller skater from the Monastana club, DKI Jakarta. At that championship, the Monastana club came out as the champion with a total of 20 gold, 14 silver and 9 bronze medals.
This competition, toMahesa, was quite challenging compared to his other past championships. This is because Mahesa has to manage his time for training which also coincides with internship activities or work studies at the DPRD DKI Jakarta as part of the program from campus. “Currently, I am in my fifth semester and am participating in an internship program as a Political Communication Team in one of the political party factions. This internship is part of the study that are required for all UI Vocational students,” said Mahesa.
The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D., also congratulated Mahesa on his achievements. “Being an athlete as well as a student is not an easy thing. Mahesa proved that even though he was busy participating in various championships, he did not forget his obligations as a student. Therefore, I am very proud of what Mahesa has done,” he said. Mahesa’s journey as a roller skater cannot be separated from the support of his parents, friends, and the Universitas Indonesia.
Mahesa added, “I am very grateful for the support from the close friends of mine. As an athlete, it is my duty to do the best and work hard in every competition I participate in. Successfully bringing home a medal is an honor and pride for me. Hopefully what I have achieved can be of benefit to many people and provide inspiration to fellow students.”
The competition which was held in Yogyakarta, 14-16 October 2022 was attended by nearly 850 participants. Mahesa shared his experience of participating in the championship which he participating while managing his time for internship and university study. “Preparing for the championship this time, I did training every day after carrying out my internship at the DPRD DKI Jakarta. I have to be able to manage my time, considering that internships are sometimes more flexible when there are activities, so I have to practice extra the next day,” said the 5th semester public relations study program student, UI Vocational education program.
Mahesa has made a number of achievements in the last two years. It was recorded that he won 5 (five) medals — 2 (two) gold medals, 2 (two) silver medals, and 1 (one) bronze medal — from five numbers in the roller skating event at the XX National Sports Week (PON). in Jayapura City, Papua. He managed to combine achievements from outside the campus and from the academic area, by winning the UI 2022 Outstanding Student at the Vocational Program Level.
Mahesa will return to compete in the First Lady Cup (13-15 December 2022) and the Jakarta Open 2022 (16-18 December 2022) as the year-end closing matches. Vocational UI provides support to athletes/students in participating in various championships. Vocational UI conducts mapping of potential student skills, encourages and provides opportunities for every student who has the potential to take part in competitions. After achievement, Vocational UI gives appreciation in the form of incentives to students who excel as a form of recognition and pride for the achievements that have been achieved.
