In celebration of its 72nd Anniversary, Universitas Indonesia (UI) gave appreciation and awards to lecturers, researchers, students, and education staff, who have contributed to realizing the nation’s independence. The awards are grouped into five categories, namely innovations registered for Intellectual Property Rights, works that have been successfully patented, works in the form of independent entrepreneurs, UI-fostered startups, and UI partners.

Symbolically pinning the award recipients was carried out by the Secretary of the University, dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D. In the innovation category registered as Intellectual Property Rights, there are 184 people, 19 people in the category of works that have been patented, 11 people in the self-employment category, and the startup category assisted by Universitas Indonesia as many as 8 people, and 45 UI partner institutions. The total award recipients are 267 people.

In addition, symbolic pins were also given to recipients of the Academic and Student Affairs award by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc. “Academic and Student Affairs would like to give appreciation to all Faculties, Schools, Vocational Education Programs, and also to the teaching staff, who have made a major contribution in improving the quality and also innovation, in the academic and student affairs that we should give awards,” said Prof. Haris.

There are five categories in receiving awards in the Academic and Student Affairs field, namely Online Learning, Implementation of the MBKM Program (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka), International Accreditation by Study Programs, Number of Student Achievements and Academic Achievements, and Employer Reputation.

On the occasion, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment General Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, M.P.A., expressed his congratulations to the entire UI family on its 72nd Anniversary. According to him, this momentum is very appropriate to be grateful that UI has become the only Indonesian university in the top 10 in Southeast Asia.

“I see this as an important milestone for Universitas Indonesia, which has gone through a long history, various successes in its efforts to become one of the best universities in Indonesia, and is expected to also take part in building the nation’s independence,” Luhut said. He appreciated UI’s steps in transforming from a traditional university to an entrepreneurial university.

UI Rector Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E, M.A, Ph.D., said in his speech that as the best university in the country, UI is committed and strives to become a superior and respected higher education at the world level. “Universitas Indonesia has proven its resilience in facing various situations and challenges, in bringing better changes for the nation and state. In accordance with the theme of the 72nd Anniversary of the Universitas Indonesia, namely Dedicate for the Independence of the Nation,” he said.

At the anniversary event, the winners of various competitions were also announced, namely a virtual healthy walking competition which was won by the Vocational Education Program, a video clip competition “The New Spirit of UI” was won by Septiano Sasongko, Instagram/TikTok reel contest won by Aiman Idrus Alatas, the singing competition in the solo category was won by Silvia Age Gideon, and the singing competition in the duo category was won by Britain Naftali and Ayda Prasasti. Furthermore, Doremipa from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMNS) won the first place in the vocal group category.

The atmosphere was enlivened by the presence of singers Prinsa Mandagi, Kaleb J., Arman Maulana, and Kikan. At the end of the event, UI provided various prizes for UI residents with a random drawing mechanism. Prizes include motorcycles, bicycles, savings, refrigerators, electronic money, and various vouchers.
