IMG_0254One of the characterictic of a developed country is the existence of industrial sector that reach 30% of overall Gross National Product (GNP). Indonesia has not reached those number yet because there is no focus and directional management on industrial sector.

Those were the topic that has been discussed on national seminar titled “Policy and Strategic Action on the Development of National Excellent Industry” at Balai Tirta, UI, Depok. This seminar was attended by a number of important figures, that is Ir. Rudiantara, MBA (Minister of Communication and Information Technology of Republic of Indonesia), Triawan Munaf (Head of Creative Economy Board of Republic of Indonesia), Farah Ratna Dewi Indriani, MBA (Deputy of Climate Development Investment – Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BPKM) of Republic of Indonesia), and Ir. Harjanto, M. Eng (Directorate General of Manufacturing Industrial Base of Ministry of Industry of Republic of Indonesia).

In this seminar, Harjanto said that this year government has targeted the reinforcement of manufacturing  industry which considered to have a very big potential. “ Steel, textile, gas, and fertilizer industries. That is what we want to improve, in order to increase the number of our export quota up to 300%,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rudiantara thought the sector that would developed rapidly will be the e-commerce. To support that, the excellent program from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology would be the making of one payment gateway for all online transactional system in Indonesia.  On the process of improving the industrial and export sector, communication technology also has an important role. “Information technology provides efficiency and transparency on bureaucracy and transactional system in Indonesia. This is important,” he said.

On the other side, the excellent program to support the national industry from Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BPKM) is shortening the bureaucracy for investors. Government has placed a representative from each ministry at BKPM central office. By this, it is expected that the investors would feel save to invest in Indonesia.

The other industrial sector which has the potency of developed rapidly is creative economy sector below Creative Economy Board (BEK). Head of BEK, Triawan Munaf, on his speech explained that BEK was on focus on several industry such as mobile application, music, even more on culinary industry.

The main problem of those field, according to Triawan, was the flare of piracy issues that bring impact to the difficulty to take benefit for Indonesia’s GNP. “In fact, there is a soft power which is very powerful on music and movie industry. Like a set of trains, the locomotive brings the domino effects which is many and profitable,” he added.

As closure, the speakers agreed that the development of industrial world in Indonesia needs the spirit of togetherness and mutual cooperation between the stake holders. Thus, the first important thing to do is to remove the sectoral ego to reach common goals. (Ay/Humas UI)
