Depok, July 7th 2023. At the celebration of their 63rd Anniversary (Dies Natalis), the Faculty of Psychology (F.Psi) Universitas Indonesia (UI) brought up the idea of ”Promoting Happiness and Prosperity in the Work Environment” as a form of concern for employee welfare. This concern becomes the process of understanding the condition of employees from a holistic perspective, starting from physical health, cognition, mental, and work environment that affect the health and happiness of employees.

Founder and CEO of EXPERD Consultant who is also an alumni of FPsi UI, Dra. Eileen Rachman, Psychologist, said that Psychology is the basis of all the soft skills needed at work and life skills. She made this statement at the main event of the FPsi UI’s 63rd Dies Natalis celebration, Tuesday (4/7), in the Auditorium Room of Building H, Faculty of Psychology UI.

According to Eileen, practitioners and academics need to increase the spirit of collaboration to build a digital and scientific mindset as well as ethics, in an era of technological disruption that has various challenges. This is because a person’s expertise in developing the ability to communicate, organize, engage in politics, raise and educate children, and even build a nation, cannot be replaced by robots.

Eileen said that a healthy work culture needs to be built and the growth mindset needs to be instilled in the company’s leaders and employees. Companies need to provide career development opportunities by creating a clear career path as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle by encouraging physical activity, educating about balanced nutrition, and providing facilities that support health.

“We must provide adequate career development opportunities and employee engagement. They will be motivated to work when they feel valued and have opportunities to develop. A learning environment through skill development, training, and clear career paths can enable employees to grow and achieve their best potential,” said Eileen.

Regarding this effort, the Dean of FPsi UI, Dr. Bagus Takwin, M.Hum., said that FPsi UI needs to be more involved in sustainable development and increasing people’s happiness, health and welfare. He said, “In my opinion, the measure of success in Psychology is the happiness and welfare of society. Therefore, FPsi UI continues to direct psychology education and service efforts so that it can produce people who are capable of leading and producing innovation, as well as advocating for policies that can bring both prosperity and happiness.”

Research in the field of Psychology is expected to have an impact on the wider community. At the commemoration of the 63rd Dies Natalis of FPsi UI, UI Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., Sp,OF(K), appreciated FPsi UI for successfully maintaining academic achievements to be at the forefront in Indonesia. “The Faculty of Psychology Universitas Indonesia is one of the faculties at UI which has succeeded in moving its research wheel significantly, continuing to grow from year to year, towards very good quality,” said Nurtami.

The Faculty of Psychology Universitas Indonesia has been contributing and innovating for the advancement of psychology in Indonesia for 63 years. The birth of Psychology Education in Indonesia was initiated by Prof. Dr. Slamet Iman Santoso’s scientific speech in his inauguration as UI Professor at the 1952 UI Dies Natalis at the Faculty of Engineering Knowledge UI in Bandung (now ITB). On July 1st 1960, the Psychology Department was designated as the Faculty of Psychology Universitas Indonesia based on the Decree of the Minister of Education, Teaching and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Thus, 1960 was the birth year of the Faculty of Psychology Universitas Indonesia.
