The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Indonesia (UI) will hold the 2023 FISIP UI OPEN Badminton Tournament. This tournament will be held on 21st–26th of November 2023 at Balairung Universitas Indonesia and is open to students from all universities in Indonesia. Held for the seventh time, FISIP UI OPEN is a form of FISIP UI’s dedication to advancing the sport of badminton in the country.
This tournament aims to strengthen the position of sport as a supporter of academic development. As learning demands become increasingly competitive, students need to have a place to relieve stress and maintain life balance. Badminton, a popular sport that requires skill and physical fitness, is an ideal means to achieve this goal.
“Campus and sports should become a unit. An athlete must be smart and analytical, while a student must be physically and spiritually healthy. Sport is expected to create physical and spiritual balance. “That’s why at Universitas Indonesia, the banners of arts, science, and sports fly high,” said the Dean of FISIP UI, Prof. Dr. Semiarto Aji Purwanto.
No less important, the holding of this tournament will increase the variety of badminton sports competitions in the country, thereby increasing opportunities for students who want to hone their talents to become badminton athletes. Apart from that, FISIP UI OPEN can also be a talent search for potential badminton athletes.
General Chair of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Dr. Agung Firman Sampurna, S.E., M.A.P. said, “Competing and learning have the same essence, namely increasing adaptability. It is hoped that this kind of tournament can increase and sharpen the competition experience for pupils and students who want to become badminton athletes or who enjoy badminton. In fact, it is not impossible that in this event new talented athletes will be discovered who will one day make the nation proud. Therefore, we really support the implementation of FISIP UI OPEN.”
Chair of the FISIP UI OPEN 2023 Organizing Committee, Ravinoldy Boer, ensured that the tournament would be carried out according to the standards set by PBSI. “The committee has taken preparations for the smooth running of this tournament very seriously. One way is to anticipate the entry of wild winds into Balairung which has the potential to disrupt the direction of the shuttlecock and the game. We will ensure that this does not happen at FISIP OPEN 2023,” said Ravinoldy.
Balairung was chosen as the venue for the FISIP UI OPEN 2023 competition because it has symbolic and important value in UI history and is often used for various university events and activities, including graduation activities for UI graduates every year.
Registration for FISIP UI OPEN 2023 is still ongoing until November 15th 2023. The total prizes that can be won reach IDR 180 million. In this year’s event, there are several competition numbers, namely (1) Individual men’s/women’s singles for U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 students; (2) High school level men’s team; and (3) Men’s team at university level.
