QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 displays 55 individual subjects grouped into several categories, including Arts & Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, and Natural Sciences. The number of institutions ranked this year is 1,559 with 64 new universities joining.

The ranking of universities in the world is determined based on an assessment of five indicators: academic reputation, the results of a global survey conducted among graduate users and academics, the number of research citations achieved by the university per paper in that subject (all citation data comes from Elsevier Scopus), the ‘H-index’ which measures the productivity and impact of an academic’s published research, and the International Research Network which reflects an institution’s ability to diversify the geography of their international research network by building sustainable research partnerships with other higher education institutions.
