The Universitas Indonesia (UI) launched a startup called FundEx, which can be accessed through https://fundex.id/. The launch was accompanied by a seminar session titled The Role of Securities Crowdfunding Platform in the UI Ecosystem Towards Entrepreneurial University. This activity took place online through the Zoom application and live Youtube UI Teve.

FundEx is a UI-led startup with the concept of securities crowdfunding. This concept is a method of raising funds to start a business through a joint venture.
In its implementation, FundEx, in its efforts to raise funds from the public, will offer three types of securities, namely equity securities (shares), debt securities, and sukuk.
Later, the management of funds from the public will be invested in sectors engaged in digital and creative businesses.
Vice Rector for Human Resources and Research, Prof. Dr. Ir.
Dedi Priadi, DEA in his welcoming speech stated that one of the consequences of PTN-BH is the demand for independence in university financial management.
This requires UI not only to encourage an entrepreneurial climate among its lecturers and students, but also to make itself an entrepreneurial organization.
The form of an entrepreneurial organization in campus management is realized by UI, among others, through therectorManagement and Development of Business Units (DPPU).
“As a form of entrepreneurial organization, DPPU continues to strive to increase UI revenue through its business units.
In addition to these existing business units, UI also has acceleration programs and opens access to funding and capital options such as the UI Works program and the provision of coworking space facilities at the UI Depok Campus for fostered start-up businesses.
UI itself also has a holding company that accommodates other commercial business units, PT UI Corpora,” said Prof. Dedi.
Clarifying the existence of PT UI Corpora, in the seminar session, President Director of PT UI Corpora Syahnan Poerba explained that since 2020 PT.
UI Corpora has developed more than 10 start-ups, one of which is FundEx.
In FundEx, PT UI Corpora invests together with other shareholders in running a joint business venture in providing capital.
The existence of FundEx is an answer to the problem of capital financing difficulties faced by new businesses.
It is hoped that the existence of FundEx will be a solution to the capital needs of start-up businesses at UI, so that the entrepreneurial ecosystem at UI will continue to grow.

Syahnan’s presentation was reinforced by Ahmad Gamal, as Director of therectorInnovation and Science Techno Park UI (DISTP UI).
In his presentation, he welcomed the establishment of FundEx because it would help the task of DISTP UI to develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem at UI.
According to him, DISTP has been developing this entrepreneurial ecosystem through three concepts, namely: problem-solution fit, scale up, and product-market fit.

In its journey, DISTP UI receives various types of startups that come to ask for development and assessment assistance.
Starting from student-formed companies that do not yet have capital to capital-ready startups, all are handled by DISTP together with DPPU UI with different treatments.
The handling is in the form of business capital assistance, creating guidance modules so that a startup does not fail, and connecting startups with the right network.
“We prepare steps to build and develop a business through a mentoring module to maintain business sustainability.
In addition, we also connect the startups with the networks necessary for them to grow.

The incubation provided by DISTP complements the funding provided by FundEx and there is a platform for startups to grow together through PT.
UI Corpora as UI’s holding company ,” Gamal said.
The seminar and launch session was hosted by Ardiyansyah, Ph.D., as the Head of the Subdirectorate of the UI DPPU Commercial Business Special Work Unit.
In addition to these two speakers, the event also presented two other speakers, namely Mandiri Capital CEO Dr. Eddi Danusaputro, and FundEx CEO Agung Wibowo, M.Kom.
